I don’t get your point. Progressives at large disdain fundraisers? Social gatherings? Tributes to retiring and defeated Senators? I know there are a lot of unpleasant curmudgeons who are progressives, but a lot of us progressives (speaking for myself) can schmooze with the best of them. So speak for yourself.
Regular liberals cannot afford these fancy ass fundraisers. Only elite party people do!!!! Get the $$ out of it!!!
Good point, though in my experience there is no class difference between progressives and your regular old Democrats (whether they be liberals or moderates). There are a lot of rich progressives out there.
Maybe my point is that there is stuff that needs doing (like this bullshit) that I (and perhaps others) have no interest in? I’m not sure, to be honest. But when I get stuff like this in my electronic mail inbox, I recoil in disgust.

My biggest concern is not that this is a stupid event. It is. But the fact that DD and the like don’t understand why is far more troubling.
At least it’s in a Union Hall. In other ten or so years people will forget what those were.
i wouldn’t go to this if they paid me the $100. but it seems petty to resent the event. there are lots of terrible things going on that are much more deserving of your wrath.
Part of the point of this fundraiser is to raise funds for the Special Election. These efforts don’t pay for themselves, you know.
RE Vanella… you understand that to win elections, we have to raise money, yes? If you are not willing to raise money to elect candidates and instead insist on attacking others for raising money, then you are fucking useless to everyone.
So let’s make Blevins and Peterson cash cows one last time.
I’m sure that’s how Karen wanted to go out. I appreciate what Peterson and Blevins have done, I want to express my thanks. But I don’t want a single dollar of mine to go to this Third Way organization which pretends to be the Democratic Party. That’s why my donations now all go to individual candidates.
BTW, nowhere does it say that this is a fundraiser for the Special Election. Just be honest about it, or…have BHL host the event since it’s her seat that will be up for grabs.

BTW since Carney is a US Congressman they have to state that when he appears at state fundraisers not intended to raise money for him.

Maybe progressive will never take over the Democratic party because taking over and running a party requires tasks I have no interest in and a skill set I don’t think I have. Maybe other progressives are like me, and they feel likewise. Maybe not, and I am on my own on this one. It would not be the first time.

I think you have hit the nail on the fucking head. And I am saying the following in all sincerity and not out of sarcasm. Building a successful party coalition that wins requires many many many undesirable tasks to be performed. It requires the horror of fundraising. It requires going out to repetitive rubber chicken dinners in your local fire or union halls. It requires lauding your fellow public officials in your party in fundraising rubber chicken dinners/receptions, etc.
I hate fundraising. I literally hate making fundraising calls or even canvassing calls, let alone actual in person canvassing. Cheers to those that love it. I hate the dinners, the receptions too. But you do it to make contacts. To network. If you are committed to the party either to change it or to see it succeed or both, you have to do it. So you have to compromise with yourself and do it. The problem some progressives have is they won’t do the dirty work of party coalition building. Successful Progressives like Paul Baumbach and Bryan Townsend and Karen Peterson do. That was how they won their elections, by going door to door, by going to every Civic Association meeting and fire hall chicken dinner.
So Jason, you don’t like these receptions. That’s fine. You can make your contributions to the cause in other ways. One way you are doing it is through your writing here at DL. It’s what I do. I write. I write checks too. And I attend these receptions and meetings on occasion when my schedule permits. But my objection is knocking it generally. Receptions like these, fundraising like this, is all part of the larger party building puzzle.
As Cassandra said, this is a fundraiser to refill coffers in anticipation of a huge influx of cash expected from national Republicans. Why would you be pissy about that?

Then WTF is this post even about? There are going to be plenty of progressives there, probably interacting with potential candidates for the special election. Would you feel better if the contribution was $27?
El Som, the Carney language is required because of the difference in federal and state election laws and regulations. But kudos to working it into your narrative.
Also the fundraiser is for the county committee, not for a candidate committee so they can’t say it’s explicitly for any one activity. None of this is scandalous just normal logistics.

Yeah, this post pretty much sums up the completely ineffectiveness of the far left movement. “I want stuff to happen but I don’t want to do any work.”

Well it’s a complete shit show because they didn’t realize you can’t gather on the National Mall, Pennsylvania Avenue or by any of the monuments for the whole week after the election. And…that’s not a Trump thing…it’s a National Park Service rule. They have to take down all of the inauguration constructed stuff, so the whole thing is a construction zone. Another massive failure by lazy progressives.
