Later Open Thread – Carney Prepared to Follow a Wide Assortment of Leaders
Check out this short 8 minute clip of John Carney and count how many times, and how many ways he says his hands are tied. #leadership!

Well, sure doesn’t look like he’s willing to ask the corporations to pay more.
And he’s as uninterested as ever.
And, if you ‘want your economy to grow’, how about a higher minimum wage?
He’s at least as robotic as Carper. You’d think the 2.0 version would have some modest upgrades. You’d be wrong.
I’d say more robotic. He sounds like he is blankly repeating some nonsense he heard, but never thought much about. Unless he has some secret reserves of intellect or courage, he is going to be easy pickings for Ken Simpler.
And Carper at least had that temper glitch that popped up from time to time, usually in the presence of school kids. And Carney would never have gone off the rails with that ‘She Works Hard For the Money’ embarrassment. He may never have had a spontaneous moment in his life.
I agree. More robotic. Might be worthy of a poll.
Those most capable of paying extra taxes should be taxed more. Those most in need of money must receive those funds.
Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant of the principles this country was founded on.
Give me a break. His hands aren’t tied. He’s not the Lt. Governor anymore. Exert some leadership and spend some political capital dude!!

Are you real? Or are you Rusty Dils just trolling? You smack of the same troll who created the Delaware Progressive Facebook parody page. I’m sort of betting that’s what’s going on here.
Carper at least has the ability to generate some faux enthusiasm.
Having to listen to Carney for 8 minutes is like a kid being kept in detention for two hours.
Straight Business Roundtable/Chamber talk. Bob Perkins, Mark Turner and Rich Heffron must be very happy.
You know, that Mendte interview is a must-watch. So many things about what Carney said bother me. But I’ll limit it to two.
(1) The guy has known for over a year now that he’d be governor. He has known about the huge budget shortfall for almost as long. Yet, he’s gonna get together with his financial team (some still unnamed at the time of the interview) to review the situation? Jeezus H, JFC hearings start in three weeks. What, if anything has he been thinking about?
(2) Check out his non-answer to the gas tax hike question. His response: Cohan figured out a way to get it done last year w/o the hike. Great. And we have a huge backlog of shovel-ready projects b/c we had to push them back due to inadequate funding in the prior years. Our gas tax is not just ‘competitive’, but much lower, than most surrounding states. Want to raise some money? Raise the gas tax, eliminate the backlog of projects, AND, in so doing, put money in the pockets of those who work on those projects. Those people working on the projects will not only pay more in taxes, but they will spend that money mostly in Delaware.
Seriously, is he deliberately dense, or is he simply not up to the job?
You can sum up Carney’s position in one sentence with two cliches:
“Everything’s on the table, but let’s sweep it all under the rug.”
Yes, that gas tax response was nauseating. But at least he is very candid about being a mouthpiece and errand boy for the Chamber of Commerce. Being candid is a virtue, right?
Perhaps if he had made that clear during the campaign or, for that matter, said something/anything of substance during the campaign….but his candidacy was, um not candid when it came to what, if anything, he stood for.
John Carney … Delaware’s most boring governor since ?????
Where is Celia when we really need her?
But he remembered to wear his fucking flag pin.
On a flagpole, the flag is an uplifting symbol of the nation. On your lapel, it is a Republican gang sign.
This guy’s balls must be the size of BBs.
I think he doesn’t want to come out now for a gas tax to save the special election seat for Dems…all I can think of ?? My guess is that come June he will likely support a 8-10 cent hike.
What makes you think that?
Interesting article from someone who says the Tea Party strategy won’t work against Trump. He offers other suggestions:

“Are you real? Or are you Rusty Dils just trolling? You smack of the same troll who created the Delaware Progressive Facebook parody page. I’m sort of betting that’s what’s going on here.”
I am very passionate in my beliefs and sometimes the choice of words don’t convey the exact meaning I intend. Nothing I post is a deliberate “troll”.
Really? And this–
Those most capable of paying extra taxes should be taxed more. Those most in need of money must receive those funds.
Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant of the principles this country was founded on.–would then lead to the question …
Where do you find these principles in the period of the American Revolution, Constitution, and early Federalist period, you know, the period in which the country was founded?
And as for your assertion that Delaware should become a refugee zone with no paperwork or identification provided? That’s a serious proposal?
Sorry, but I’m just not buying it at this point.
America was founded on equality:
“The quotation “All men are created equal” has been called an “immortal declaration,” and “perhaps [the] single phrase” of the American Revolutionary period with the greatest “continuing importance.”[1][2] Thomas Jefferson first used the phrase in the U.S. Declaration of Independence, which he penned in 1776 during the beginning of the American Revolution. It was thereafter quoted and incorporated into speeches by a wide array of substantial figures in American political and social life in the United States. The final form of the phrase was stylized by Benjamin Franklin.[3]”

I like this new anonymous internet generator. La progression à la mode. It’s like a Family Guy cartoon gag. I mean it’s a non sequitur, sure. Almost complete nonsense in context. But what else will sustain us now if not web-comment juvenilia? Plus it spurred Dr Newton into action.
So the Roman Empire imploded into the Dark Ages. Darkness.
