Purzycki Silent as 2017 Gets Off to a Deadly Start
Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki has not released any statements regarding the rash of shootings that have occurred in Wilmington since the beginning of 2017. He has welcomed Coffee Mode to the city though.
The shooting marks the city’s fourth in as many days. Since Sunday, six people have been shot, three of which have been fatal.

This week’s three homicides marks the deadliest start to a year since 2011. Wilmington has averaged 2.5 gun related homicides in January over the last six years, according to The News Journal database.

He is too busy giving failed fire chiefs sweetheart deals.
Two ways of looking at it:
At this point four years ago, Williams was saying he’d have the crime problem solved in six months. Maybe Mayor Mike knows better and is keeping his mouth shut.
OTOH, perhaps the shooters aren’t as scared of Mike as they were of Williams.
I wonder if that state money that Williams turned down is still available. If so, Mayor Mike would do well to access it by providing the info that the Joint Finance Committee sought.
Way too early to criticize him for his policing strategy. Unless, like Williams, he really doesn’t have one.
El Som,
Mike doesn’t have one … but his new chief will. Mike believes in leaving crime-fighting to the experts.
A comment would be nice though.
MW, Williams, um, snookered (a word used too infrequently, IMHO) the voters into thinking he was an expert. He lied.
Just because Williams as a moron and a con man, doesn’t mean that Purzycki should stay silent. He should do the opposite and show what a true leader does.
ElSom,
Agreed re ubersnookerer Williams. (How’s that for coining a new word?)
Nemski,
Might be nice for Mayor Mike to say something, but he’s kind of boxed in right now. He can express sympathy, but beyond that all he’s got is something like “we’ll work as hard as we can to find the perps under the leadership of my lame-duck chief in whom I have next to no confidence.”
