Rep. Michael Ramone submitted HB 36 that will make it unlawful for those under 18 to possess, use or consume tobacco. Though doubtful this law will curtail smoking, it will make it easier to for teenagers’ to obtain a criminal record. So it has that going for it.
For a bill with limited benefit but drastic consequences, it should die in committee. Also, if anyone thinks that this law would be enforced equitably along racial lines, they haven’t been paying attention.
It should not be surprising that all the sponsors of this legislation are Republicans. On a side note, I thought Republicans hated useless laws and regulations.
