Delaware Republicans Don’t Like Clean Air and Clean Water
By saying that Shawn Garvin, Carney’s nomination for secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, is unfit because he was a member of Obama’s EPA which the GOP thinks is “the most anti-business EPA in history” is nothing short of an attack on clean air and clean water in Delaware.
Delaware State News reported that Sen. Colin Bonini said the following after voting against Shawn Garvin for secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control:
“I have no concern with Shawn. I think he was a smart guy, I don’t think there was any problem with him personally at all. He seemed like a nice guy. My concern was … we’re talking about a high-level EPA officer in the Obama administration, and the EPA in the Obama administration was probably the most anti-business EPA in history.”
As you’ll see in the rest of this post, Obama’s EPA has made great strides in protecting our air and water. So what part of clean water and clean air do Bonini and the Republicans not like? Make no mistake of this, fighting against the Senate Republicans on Garvin’s appointment is a fight in the resistance to Trump.
Donviti had a post about how environmental standards in Delaware have improved under Obama. Here’s a nice chart that shows how the air our seniors and children breath in Delaware has improved.
Here’s a list of some of Obama’s accomplishments in protecting the environment:
- Cutting mercury emissions for power plants
- Stimulus package for green economy
- Cutting CO2 emissions from new cars
- Clean Power Plan that cuts emissions from new power plants
- Strengthening the Toxic Substance Control Act

My first impression is that the R’s have given the D’s a real issue to motivate voters in the 10th.
“Trump and the Senate R’s: Despoiling the environment together.”
If you didn’t think the SD 10 special election was important yesterday, you do so now.

How many people do you know who have cancer? Bet it’s more than a few, I know dozens of survivors and people who are currently fighting the disease. You would think of all places on earth Delawareans would have learned their lesson on pollution and what happens when you pollute the air and water. Apparently not, the Republicans are still on the side of pollution and the quick buck their owners cannot live without. Yesterday I drove past the Tybouts Corner Super Fund Site, a fine symbol of this states ” to hell with the earth!” era of pollution for fun and profit. The profits are gone but people are still dying. Gee, I wonder if gutting environmental regulations will turn out differently this time?
The sad part is that there is money in clean energy technology as well as quality of life improvement. There’s no concern for sustainability or for the next generations. I’m going to puke on the next conservative that tells me they are pro family values. That’s clearly a lie and all they care about is their own vile petty egos and supporting their polluter hero’s against their own kids
So much for that bipartisan work together bullshit.
