Occasional words from the resistance
…from the desk of R.E. Vanella.
Saturday, 11 February. Things to do.
06:30 Switch off boorish cell-phone alarm. (Google ringtone ‘Flow’ ©)
06:42 Recall the day of the week and the President of the United States
06:43 Roll to left side; slide right arm over; rub wife’s spine lightly to soothe yourself
06:45 Shower
07:15 Walk to pub
07:30 Watch Arsenal underperform, but look lovely; laugh; Compose Wenger OUT! medley
09:30 Fetch ride to 7th & Shipley
09:39 Coffee
10:00 Stand-up and resist, go on record (like Coons just did), prove there’s still warm blood zipping through these veins
Noon Return to pub
12:32 Toast 3rd beer to Harry Kane’s opener
13:50 Commiserate with Josh
14:04 Feign magnanimity; Curse Chelsea; Toast Harry Kane hat-trick; Compose lyrics to Klopp OUT! medley
14:05 Tell Bertram a joke
14:12 Nap
17:00 Literary shit; Read fiction at the Jackson Inn; Reflect on the genius of Mauricio Pochettino
Joking aside, this demonstration is on. It’s not a drill or anything. Persuading someone to disable a Facebook group doesn’t really cancel anything. It’s not about Planned Parenthood. It’s about doing what’s right. Going on record. Opposing what you oppose when opposition is required. Resist. We’re all in this together.
An article from Slate describes the same urge all over the country:
