NYTimes: Trump Officials Fed Nunes Intel That Nunes Fed Back to White House
Jesus H. Christ:
The takeaway:
A pair of White House officials played a role in providing Representative Devin Nunes of California, the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, with the intelligence reports that showed President Trump and his associates were incidentally swept up in foreign surveillance by American spy agencies.
Several current American officials identified the White House officials as Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the senior director for intelligence at the National Security Council, and Michael Ellis, a lawyer who works on national security issues at the White House Counsel’s Office and formerly worked on the staff of the House Intelligence Committee.
Mr. Cohen-Watnick is a former Defense Intelligence Agency official who was originally brought to the White House by Michael T. Flynn, the former national security adviser.
Oh, and this ‘explosive’ info?
Officials said the reports consisted primarily of ambassadors and other foreign officials talking about how they were trying to develop contacts within Mr. Trump’s family and inner circle in advance of his inauguration.
In other words, a nothingburger designed to change the subject.
This administration and the entire Trump family is dirty with Russian connections and likely hundreds of millions in Russian laundered money. I think it’s inevitable that Trump’s presidency will be brought down by all this. Only question is when.
Not while the GOP is in control of the House and/or the Senate. That’s when,
God, watching this Sean Spicer dance as fast as he can on the Times story, it’s pretty obvious that the story is true and he knows he can’t deny it.
Disagree, there will come the point when the Republicans see no value in Trump, just trouble and defeat in 2018, at which point impeachment is a possibility. It’s well know that many Republicans have no love for Trump, did not want him and find him a PITA on a grand scale. There is a limit to everything, other than the gullibility of the American electorate of course.
Once it becomes clear that Trump’s ties to Russia are about organized crime and laundering money, rather than electoral interference, they’ll have ample evidence to impeach him without putting the legitimacy of Republican rule into doubt.
Of course, that might not be until sometime in Trump’s second term.
