“Delaware legislators say they have votes to legalize pot”
Sen. Brian Pettyjohn says he doesn’t see interest for it in his district, that it will require a super majority, and that it is unlikely to pass.
This will likely go down as, “we know what’s best for you, more than you do”.
For one of the few states that are still controlled by Democrats, Delaware is still pretty damned conservative on certain issues.
As long as the Dem tent is stretchy enough to cover Pete Schwartzkopf and straight up Republicans like John A-T-K-I-N-S , you have a point.
See also the comment thread on the Sussex Co Party chair elections. With friends like that who needs enemies.
Oh great, Carney wants to gut the CZA.
Fucking Tom Carper is looking like more of a Democrat right now than Carney is. How much does THAT say?
It’s not just Carney. As I warned people months ago, Stephanie Hansen is no friend of the environment. Here’s the money line:
“Hansen said she thinks it is possible for the state to make some changes that would not endanger the environment but could still open the door for significant numbers of new jobs.”
The time to pressure her on it was during the election. But no, everyone was too busy rooting for their favorite team to bother to learn which team their own player was loyal to.
Addendum to above: You might have noticed what’s going on in North Carolina, where Democrat Roy Cooper went back on his campaign pledge and signed a “compromise” repeal of HB 2 that doesn’t actually repeal HB 2.
This is why the Democratic Party has a lower approval rating than Donald Trump or the Republican Party.
Hansen is tied to her corporate law firm and the development/ money interests. She will be the front woman to sponsor the “tweaks” to Coastal Zone. You watch…
“The time to pressure her on it was during the election.”
The time to pressure her on it is any time up until a floor vote is held. Or are you about to tell me that the call I’m about to make to John Mitchell, Jr’s office is a waste of time because the election is over?
Interesting conversation this morning on Delaware105.9 fm between Dan Gaffney and Jim Purdue of Purdue Foods. They were talking about consumer trends and how Purdue is moving towards organic products, due to consumer demand.
Purdue Foods is also working to convince farmers of this trend ,and how growing non-GMO feed crops will help bring down the current high costs of having to import organic feed from overseas, according to Jim Purdue.
Listening to this, and seeing how consumer demand is trending away from GMO products, I don’t see why the Dupont Co. is doubling down on GMO….Just seems like a bad business plan for the company ,and as a result, for Delaware.
“Or are you about to tell me that the call I’m about to make to John Mitchell, Jr’s office is a waste of time because the election is over?”
No. I’m telling you that you now have no leverage. She needed votes then; she doesn’t need them now. You get more with a phone call and leverage than from a phone call alone.
This is, or ought to be, obvious.
