BREAKING: Delaware Will Not Turn Over Voter Information…
…to Donald Trump’s phony voter fraud commission, which is itself the only fraud being perpetrated here:
I really liked Jeff Bullock’s response:
“Delaware has a long history of running fair and efficient elections open to all qualified voters. We should not be a part of any effort to turn back the clock on the progress we have made,” Bullock said in the release. “Delaware will not be a party to this disingenuous and inappropriate campaign against one of the nation’s foundational institutions.”
Mic drop.
Good for us.
Perhaps my phone call to the Commissioner of Elections helped get this refusal to “comply” get discussed!
But did you see this in the same article?
Delaware Republican Party Chairman Michael Harrington said he believes the state should hand over the requested data and blamed “one-party rule” for refusing what he sees as a legitimate federal inquiry.
“This is Delaware Democrats saying to the nation we’re going to run this state like the Gestapo,” Harrington said. “Delaware should comply with that request.”
Gestapo? Really? Who is this guy?
he’s one of those, waddyacallem, idiots. also, another example of trump-accepting republicans who divert criticism of trump’s nazi overtones by attaching a term like gestapo to the other side whether it makes any sense or not. this is why it’s so important to them for words to have no real meaning.
I called Jeffrey Bullock’s office to thank him for refusing to turn over voter info and left a message — and got a call back! An assistant returned my call to thank me for thanking him. So I thanked her for thanking me for…. Anyway, let’s show our SOS some love —

Why not turn them over. Afraid of all the illegal alien votes for local Dem’s???
No Tom, we’re afraid of the neo Nazi’s in the White House. Not really as they are pathetic. P.S., said aliens are coming to get you with Roman candles blazing.
The real purpose of this exercise is to deprive legal, qualified voters the ability to vote through “soft matching” people with similar names and who have backgrounds that might suggest Democratic voting patterns.
That people like Tom Kline and the rank and file GOP is fine with this scheme says all you need to know about America I decline.
Happy birthday American Democracy. You had a nice 243 year run.
Hey, Tom, I can’t speak for the others, but one reason I don’t want Delaware to comply is that I prefer my personal data not be handed over to a party — any party — but especially a party that can’t be trusted to keep it confidential. Remember this? It was only two weeks ago, but a lifetime ago in the era of multiple daily outrages:
http://www.npr.org/2017/06/19/533551243/firm-contracted-by-rnc-left-millions-of-voter-files-unsecured-online
“An extensive database of information about 198 million Americans collected by a contractor hired by Republican groups was obtained by a security researcher, who found it on an Amazon server, with not even a single password protecting it. The data included home addresses, birth dates and phone numbers of voters from both parties. […] The data was compiled by Deep Root Analytics, which advises campaigns on political TV advertising and was contracted by the Republican National Committee, and other GOP groups.”
Who is going to be in charge of safeguarding the information compiled by this voter fraud investigation? At the very least, there should be an initial security audit for proposed procedures and bipartisan congressional oversight.
There is no more personal information on the voting records then what is in the phone book.
If you are worried about safeguarding your information ask the State to stop selling your personal information to marketers (which is does).
“There is no more personal information on the voting records then what is in the phone book.”
That is demonstrably an untrue statement.
I just checked and, no, my voting history since 2006 is not given in the phone book. As far as I know, that information isn’t anywhere but in my head. Are election officials supposed to call everyone on the rolls and ask for it?
Paula,
Please re-read what I typed. Nowhere did I say your voting information is in the phone book.
Steve- Outside of your losing campaign to Wayne Smith, I’m not sure what your exposure to voting records are. My background – 5 years on the Executive Committee, delegate to the Nation Convention, campaign manager for races from Town Council to U. S Senate.
The only information on the voting records is name, address, party affiliation and voting participation. Social Security numbers, criminal records, credit score, driver’s license number, etc, are not part of the voting information.
As I said in my first post, If you are concerned about privacy call your representative and ask them to stop the state from selling your personal information to marketers, which is does.
Oh, I see the game you’re playing here. You’re still wrong. Party affiliation and voting records are not in MY phone book.
You may not be aware of my background but I’ve worked with voter records and on campaigns for over 25 years. I trust my credentials far more than I trust your alleged credentials.
Tom, no, I don’t think you read what I wrote. I didn’t mention voter rolls in either of my posts here. For me this is not (solely) about what is in a state’s voter roles or what’s freely available in the phone book or online, it is about the full scope of what the commission has asked the secretaries of state to turn over. In addition to voter information like name and address, much more was requested, including each individual’s party affiliation and voting history. Let’s say that voting participation (as in, did you show up to vote, but not who you voted for) is needed to catch someone who might have voted in two different states in the same election. Why would party affiliation be needed to investigate that in a general election?
And to plan on storing this in the White House office of VP Pence? Should we put a note in the master file with a note that says, “Do Not Erase”?
Owen Kellogg, if you want to be taken seriously, I encourage you to use your own name here.
@”Owen”: First of all, there is no “phone book” anymore. So there’s that.
Second, naming yourself after an Ayn Rand character isn’t going to get you anywhere on a liberal blog.
Those two mistakes negated your valid point.
Such is the life of a concern troll, I suppose.
I miss the phone book
Me too, but then I’m not a business owner who has to buy space in it.
I miss my rotary phone.
