Wind Power Making Comeback In Delaware? Delaware should have been at the forefront of wind power development. Maybe better late than never.
Trump Put Pressure On Sessions To Stop Arpaio Prosecution. Joe had him at ‘birtherism’.
Cabinet Member’s Daughter Rips Trump A New One On Transgender Ban. Daughter of Interior Secretary, a veteran herself, calls King Cheeto a ‘…never-served piece of shit’. My Hero Of the Week.
Potential Economic Impact Of Harvey. It’s greater than you think.
An Epic Takedown Of Coal Industry. Why free markets work…until you’re on the losing side. A reverse carbon tax for West Virginia??
What do you want to talk about?
Watching Jennifer Granholm on CNN this morning, I think she would make a great president and good campaigner.
Granholm was born in Canada.
Thanks for that, Anonlib.
But her parents were Americans right?
I object to “never served” used as a slur. First of all, I don’t agree that “serve” can only mean “serve in the military.” Secondly, there’s nothing wrong with not serving in the military. Obama “never served.”
For objectionable conflicts like Vietnam and Iraq, “not serving” can be a badge of honor. “Serving” in those conflicts is not “defending our freedom.”
“Piece of shit,” however, is fine.
I think her point, as a veteran, is that tRump, a non-server, has the gaul to suggest that he is fit to judge whether or not other citizens who want to serve, and have served with honor, are “fit” to be in the military or not. In that context, “never served” is the attack that is directed only at tRump, as he is the one who pairs “never served” with the extraordinary temerity to judge service members.
I hope your readers might appreciate this much needed and welcome development in Delaware. Hopefully Governor Carney’s Executive Order creating an Offshore Wind Working Group will result in establishing a serious plan and direction that can move Delaware back to the forefront as a notable pioneer in renewable energy generation and offshore wind development.
A decade ago I was at the center of efforts to bring Offshore Wind Generation to Delaware’s coast. In fact, as a legislator, I was privileged to help authorize the “Bluewater Wind” project and helped craft and pass a Power Purchase Agreement that would guarantee a 25 year price stability. Unfortunately a total lack of cooperation by the Federal government manifested by an almost deliberate slowness to issuing permits and a reluctance to authorize subsidies and loan guarantees helped stifle the investor commitments and the agreement expired.
Since that time, I have spent the last decade as an elected Representative pursuing the necessary, game-changing initiative of offshore wind generation. I have participated in numerous summits and discussions, both as a panelist and an audience member. In February I was invited by the British Embassy to travel to the United Kingdom for an extensive week long series of meetings on the subject of offshore wind generation. We visited various government and private agencies that are at the cusp of making the United Kingdom the biggest wind generator in Europe. More recently in August, I attended the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NCEL), the Nation Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) in Boston and the Council of State Governments (CSG) in Connecticut to participate in numerous meetings regarding renewable electric generation highlighting offshore wind capabilities on the East coast. In my capacity as an active member of the Energy committees of these organization I was impressed by the renewed dedication to renewable energy generation in which “offshore wind” is a serious component being considered and pursued.
I have contacted Governor Carney and asked to be included/involved in this “Wind Working Group” due to my track record and knowledge of this particular subject. My decade-long involvement as a legislator and citizen who is aware of the benefits, challenges and limitless potential of this renewable energy generating resource will hopefully be a useful tool for this group.
I hope all of you will forward this advisory to your outlets and contact Governor Carney with your messages of support and encouragement.
Representative John Kowalko
“the extraordinary temerity to judge service members.”
And who do you think should judge service members? The military is supposed to be under civilian control, whether those civilians have served in the military or not.
I don’t accept the phony rule that only those who have served in the military can criticize the military.
Trump is unfit because he is an asshole, NOT because he didn’t serve in the military.
@ Puck. I’m just as sure you think tRump is as unqualified as I suggest he is.
Presidents generally don’t decide which individuals may or may not serve in the military.
Jee-zus, Puck. Her point seems crystal clear to me. A guy who not only never has served, but used a shitload of deferments to avoid service (hence the ‘never served’ epithet) decides, against the position of ALL the branches of the military, that transgendered patriots should not be allowed to serve.
Why? The only reason I can think of is b/c he wants to keep those who hate transgendered folks firmly in his camp. There is no legitimate public policy reason for doing this.
Is it really that hard to understand?
POTUS’ bigotry should be addressed by the Congress immediately. It is that important to the country. Up or down, but he should be tried.
Man, stay out of the ocean. I got caught up in the current flowing down the step beach replenishment slope in Dewey and knocked off my feet. It was a bit scary, especially for the people watching me
Paul Hayes – what is the charge? I’m seriously asking, because he is guilty of being a dick, but that isn’t going to cut it.
Jason, what is the charge? Which ever one or many work. “high crimes and misdemeanors”. Choosing a criminal to pardon defying the rule of law for starters. What Trump did may not be illegal (the pardon) but what Arpaio did is. Pardon Smardon. This president opposes our laws and undermines them. Supposedly they charged Clinton with perjury. Did tRump not swear to defend the constitution? His pardon of Arpaio, while technically legal, breaks that oath of office.
Offshore wind seems like a great idea except it is extremely cost prohibitive and negatively impact marine life.
If Delaware wants to heavily subsidize renewable energy, they could focus on putting solar panels on every roof in Delaware. You know, by actually giving electricity to people. Not giving money to yet another business so citizens can buy energy at ever increasing rates.
Not bad. Germany gets way worse sun and makes 7 % of their energy from solar.
@paul: It’s not as if we haven’t discussed this. Until the Republicans decide he’s more trouble than he’s worth, we’re going nowhere on impeachment. I think they will, but I hope they do it too late to save their skins in the midterms.
Re: “Never served.” A better charge is “chicken hawk” — someone who’s eager to send others to risk their lives after having “other priorities” (Dick Cheney) when it was their own chance to serve.
@Al Finally something on which we can agree, “chickenhawk”, an old but perfect descriptor, and it is what makes the former serviceperson’s choice of language so perfect.
There is a difference between being a ‘never served’ and a ‘dodging service exploiting every loophole to avoid it when the nation needed you” chickenhawk.
Wind? You haven’t learned your lesson yet, fisker, bloom. The definition of insanity
