Network Delaware Flexes Its Political Muscles In SD3

Elizabeth ‘Tizzy’ Lockman. Remember the name. She is running for Bob Marshall’s seat in SD 3.  She is the first candidate to emerge from Network Delaware’s grassroots efforts.

She is a candidate who does not appear to be someone who was obsessed with being involved in politics, in stark contrast to Jordan Hines, who has been itching to run since his recent cameo appearances in other campaigns.  According to this News-Journal story,  Lockman ‘is an education advocate and advocacy director at the Christina Cultural Arts Center. A native of the Cool Spring neighborhood on Wilmington’s west side, she has been a Public Ally, a member of the governor-appointed Wilmington Education Advisory Committee and vice chair of the Wilmington Education Improvement Commission.’

She is the daughter of former News-Journal reporter, columnist and editor Norm Lockman. (BTW, apropos of nothing, I discovered this story on the evolution of Wilmington City Council’s ‘discretionary’ fund.  The person pushing for it was Ted Blunt, the person warning against this potential slush fund was Norm Lockman.) I am quite impressed with her issue positions. Especially her commitment to public education as the ‘engine of democracy’.

I have often lamented that our best tend to avoid politics, leaving the field to people more interested in being somebody rather than doing something.  Tizzy Lockman appears to be a major exception to that rule. Her candidacy excites me and should excite you.

Now, if only Network Delaware could find somebody to replace the ethical sewer that is Charles Potter…
