Why aren’t markets tanking?
I’m seriously asking. Why isn’t the DJIA in the toilet right now? I’ve always heard that markets value stability and predictably above all. That bit of CW seems to have gone by the wayside.

One more reason why the Democratic Party sucks. They WANT people with no (relevant) skills of their own as long as they are malleable Third Way types.
…I thought of Ken Simpler’s Simple plan. The one for the state government to act as a kind of federal reserve bank, letting money out into the world to keep the economy from getting too cold or too hot. As Alby observed, that idea is DOA being illegal.
However, what if the point wasn’t the idea but the tone? What if Simpler is auditioning to be the next acceptable Republican? …a GOP candidate acceptable to Tom Carper and Chris Coons?

Occasional Words from the Resistance
Last month I received as a birthday gift the Collected Essays, Journalism and Letters of George Orwell, first edition in four volumes. I reacted like little kid under the Christmas tree. It’s incredibly satisfying when people close to you know you well enough to give the perfect gift. Something’s functioning properly. Feels good.
