Why aren’t markets tanking?

I’m seriously asking. Why isn’t the DJIA in the toilet right now? I’ve always heard that markets value stability and predictably above all. That bit of CW seems to have gone by the wayside.

What the fuck are investors thinking?

Comment Rescue: Word of the day is “malleable”

When my esteemed co-counsel said this in the comments:

One more reason why the Democratic Party sucks. They WANT people with no (relevant) skills of their own as long as they are malleable Third Way types.

…I thought of Ken Simpler’s Simple plan. The one for the state government to act as a kind of federal reserve bank, letting money out into the world to keep the economy from getting too cold or too hot. As Alby observed, that idea is DOA being illegal.

However, what if the point wasn’t the idea but the tone? What if Simpler is auditioning to be the next acceptable Republican? …a GOP candidate acceptable to Tom Carper and Chris Coons?

BREAKING: Trump Threatens To Abandon Puerto Rico Relief Effort.  ““We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. forever!”  I have no words. Velda Jones-Potter At It Again. How the fuck does the City hand this serial feeder at the public trough her […]

Is it time for Canada to annex Blue America?

When I lived in DC and people talked about “statehood” I’d always put in a plug for “provicehood.” It seems my idea is catching on.

Dog Bites Man: Dennis E. Williams Is Running Again

This time for State Auditor. Why?: Representative Williams has been urged by voters, Democratic Committee members, and elected officials throughout the state to bring his experience and qualifications to the position of State Auditor. Dennis has had a career that makes him uniquely qualified for this position. Raise your hand if you believe anything in […]

BREAKING: Here’s Why Tillerson Called Trump A Bleeping Moron. Here’s another version.  He called for a, wait for it, ‘tenfold’ increase in our nuclear weapons arsenal at a July meeting.  That’s, um, ten times what we have now.  It was literally right after this meeting that Tillerson called Trump a moron. Wilmington Trust ‘Too Big […]

The Speculative Attorney General Thread: Part Deux

It’s been quiet, too quiet, concerning this race.  So, time to share some of the latest scuttlebutt I’ve heard: 1. Oberly In? Jennings Out?  They apparently realize that they would both appeal to the same constituencies, whatever those constituencies might be.  Oberly hasn’t run for office since 1994, when he challenged and lost a US […]

He’s on my musical Mount Rushmore.  Perhaps Donald Fagen put it best: “The ET in my bedroom was my Thelonious Monk records.” There was no one like him. Not to mention, he had the greatest name of all time. Check out some highlights from a 1959 Newport Jazz Festival gig:   https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/10/a-hundred-years-of-thelonious-monk-listen-to-this.html

Another Reason To Hate The Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones delivers marching orders direct from Trump to players. Stand for the anthem, or else. There’s also this.  I’m with Trump 100% on that one. How Chicago Gets Its Guns. It’s not from huge cartels. Trump To Repeal Clean Power Plan Today.  By putting Scott Pruitt’s thumb […]

Occasional Words from the Resistance

Last month I received as a birthday gift the Collected Essays, Journalism and Letters of George Orwell, first edition in four volumes.  I reacted like little kid under the Christmas tree.  It’s incredibly satisfying when people close to you know you well enough to give the perfect gift.  Something’s functioning properly.  Feels good.

CZA Regs Meetings to be Shrouded in Secrecy – Part 1

John Carney has a real penchant for secret meetings. We are currently developing a story based on a (DNREC) invitation to “stakeholders” regarding Coastal Zone Conversion Permits. The meeting invitation promises participants that their participation in the Regs writing process will shrouded in secrecy and cloaked in confidentiality.
