Matthews: Biden’s ‘definitely’ running for president
“I’ve talked to his family. He’s running. OK? Fact,” Matthews said Friday following an appearance at NBC10 promoting his new book, “Bobby Kennedy: A Raging Spirit.”
Biden, President Obama’s vice president and a popular seven-time senator from Delaware, is a “regular guy,” Matthews said, who would rather summer at casual Rehoboth Beach than tony Martha’s Vineyard.
Chris Matthews has become an old blowhard who should be put out to pasture. If you watch his show, he screws up so many names and forgets things all the time. It has become embarrassing for him.
Bottom line: He is in LOVE with all the Irish guys–Tip O Neill, the Kennedys, etc… Of course hes touting Joe. A blue collar Irish guy from Wilmington, I mean, Scranton! 🙂
Matthews doesn’t know anything, he is just shooting his mouth off and hoping for an Irish victory in 2020. He is entitled to his hopes and opinions, but its not real news folks.
While I greatly admire Joe Biden, if the Chris Matthews argument that a Joe campaign can bring back white working class voters like Bobby Kennedy seemed to do, I want to remind Matthews and those who believe this myth of some history. Bobby ran pre-voting/civil rights acts and pre-war on poverty. Those monumental and totally necessary initiatives that defined much of the Democratic Party changed almost everything. With Republican recruitment of white people post those initiatives using dog whistles and Reagan’s stoking of white resentment, many if not most of those folks left our party, excepting those pushed by Labor leadership to stick with us for better days ahead. Sadly, better days were not ahead for Labor and they could not hold onto many of their votes. The best of intentions are not going to bring working class/well paying manufacturing jobs back on a scale necessary to bring the lives they had back to these people. Other economic solutions to their despair must be found with a tough road ahead to find those solutions. Some solutions will be found for a generation in infrastructure rebuilding if we can regain control of Congress and state legislatures and the wealthy show a willingness to secure their future by moving some of that wealth into the rebuilding task. I’m hoping Joe and Chris can see the future in the same way.
Bobby ran in 1968. The Civil Rights Act passed in 1964. The country was in the throes of the backlash when he ran.
Thank you for that correction. The hardhats were on the march then and in Texas George Bush was wooing the the Wallace people away from the Democratic Party thank goodness.
The War on Poverty was also kicked off in 1964, four years before Bobby ran for President.
As with the war on drugs, poverty won.
I’m working Joe Biden’s campaign in Sussex County and I predict a win!
