Tom Neuberger Running For AG
Cites Tim Mullaney’s background, calls him dangerous:
“I represented various people who wore the wire for the FBI back during the years when Tim Mullaney was the county attorney for New Castle County during the first [Tom] Gordon and [Sherry] Freebery administration–that’s when the county was buffeted by FBI investigations, federal corruption charges, criminal proceedings, many civil lawsuits I brought by police officers for the county, FBI informants, and other whistleblowers,” he said. “Tim Mullaney has a big taint on his history, and he would be a terrible attorney general.”
Neuberger is, at best, a mixed bag. For example, he is prepared to demagogue the death penalty issue:
We need a death penalty in place so that a jury of 12 reasonable people–if they feel the situation requires it–can administer the death penalty–otherwise, how are we going to protect the public from the terrible situations that can arise? What if we had a mass killing in Delaware? God forbid.”
OTOH, he represented victims of abuse by the Catholic clergy and he supports stronger laws on sexual harassment.
I think he laid out the fatal flaw of his candidacy with his announcement. He’s running against Tim Mullaney. Odds are better than not that Mullaney, who has not responded to reporters’ requests for comments since his announcement, will not be the Democratic nominee for AG. What will be Neuberger’s raison d’etre if/when Mullaney fades?
Still, he’s a legit candidate, and the R’s will likely also have a primary for AG. Me? Still waiting on Townsend and/or Lynn.
The guy is a NUT. But can spend some $$ if hes serious.
Might bail at some point because he won’t like getting creamed.

He may or may not be. I’ve noticed, though, that all too often, it’s easy to dismiss someone w/o at least seriously considering them. Especially if you have political power and want to make sure that some ‘nut’ doesn’t come along and threaten that power.

This is a classic vanity campaign designed to take out one opponent only.
That was the reason Trump ran, you might recall — he wanted to knock Jeb out of the race. So, depending on whether he actually campaigns, don’t count Neuberger out.

Who is he trying to take out?
Both Mullaney and Neuberger are poor choices in my opinion….need some younger candidates to get in this race on both sides of the aisle.
@jason: Mullaney. I’m just going by what he said, but if he’s telling the truth then I expect him to devote all his energy to criticizing Mullaney rather than whomever his primary opponent will be.

I think he has a shot. He has a measure of name recognition and a list of accomplishments “taking on the Man” and winning. He could craft a message that could win this thing.
Ian McConnel is a younger guy who served as state solicitor and chief deputy under Beau Biden. He will take out the competition in the primaries and win the AG nomination, unless Joe Biden asks him to join his campaign for president…

Mullaney was the head of the consumer fraud/white collar crime division before McConnel took over and then was promoted by Beau Biden to state solicitor and then chief deputy. McConnel ran the office when Beau Biden was “pretending” to be healthy. Joe Biden owes McConnel for leading the AGs office in Beau’s absence. Mark my words: Joe Biden will look to make McConnel chief of staff of his presidency — or he will campaign to make McConnel the new AG. Biden will handpick the new AG, and it’s likely to be McConnel…
Chief of staff? Seems like an awfully steep promotion considering how deep a talent pool Joe would have to choose from.
AG, OTOH, looks wide open. If Joe actively campaigns for him, I’d say he’d be a heavy favorite.
You guys need to remember: Beau Biden was “absent” from the AGs office for a long time. Remember the pictures of Beau and Hallie and Joe Biden in Texas, saying that he was okay. Ian McConnel covered for Beau Biden when he was sick — he ran the AGs office when Beau was getting treated for cancer. Joe Biden adored his son, Beau — he owes McConnel and will campaign for him (unless he asks McConnel to join/run his campaign for president). Joe Biden wanted Beau Biden to be Governor of Delaware and President of the United States. Joe Biden will pass McConnel the torch, because his other son, Hunter Biden, is damaged goods: he can’t realistically carry it.
I’m not doubting you. But surely you know that a lot of chief assistants in that office have carried the burden for their bosses over the years.
The only way I see Biden owes him anything special is that he kept his mouth shut about how sick Beau was. Of course, that’s a big debt considering how devoted Biden is to secrecy.
