No Illusions

A number of commenters have forecast a Roy Moore victory in the Alabama special election, and the first post-Thanksgiving poll, released today, shows Moore with a 5-point lead. It’s a turnaround from polls taken in the aftermath of his purity-search scandal, and ought to serve to convince people — if November’s results didn’t do the trick — that trying to win elections on moral arguments is a mug’s game.

The reason the public reacts so strongly to Obamacare cuts isn’t that they’re worried other people will lose their insurance. They’re worried they will.
