Open Thread Nov. 28: Coastal Zone and Taxes
The Delaware Audubon Society has called bullshit on the Coastal Zone Gutting Act, refusing to participate in the “workshops” at which the state intends to collect comments before ignoring them. This is a perfect illustration of liberalism/progressivism vs. the Democratic Party. Scott Goss’ story points out that this is backed not only by the state Chamber of Commerce but by its unions as well. Gutting the environment for jobs is what Scott Walker did in Wisconsin. It’s not a liberal thing to do. These are the people we must oust from leadership of the party, or the party is dead.
The GOP tax bill continues to get worse, ostensibly because giving more to the rich was the big problem with the bill before. Even with the rush job through Congress, the public is not fooled — the polling shows it’s supported almost exclusively by Republicans, possibly because they haven’t been told what’s in it by the folks at Fox.
Here’s an interesting echo of the Roy Moore case from downstate Delaware. A 42-year-old man fathered a child with a 16-year-old and was convicted of rape. His appeal of his absurd sentence of 395 years for what sounds like a consensual relationship was denied by the state Supreme Court, naturally. One of the arguments it rejected was that his conduct was “consistent with rural-American cultural practices.” His biggest mistake, apparently, was not winning elective office before he met his victim.
Reaction to the New York Times profile of an Ohio Nazi continues, with Slate’s Jamelle Bouie weighing in with an important point: Racism in America always has been a banal part of white middle-class privilege.
And, on the oust-Trump front, more signs are pointing to Gen. Mike Flynn co-operating with Robert Mueller’s probe, a development that would spell lot of trouble for the Trump “administration.”
Add anything you want to talk about.
Instead of these POS legislators looking at how they can attract polluters, why aren’t they creating the conditions form clean high tech jobs. This is total BS! And Sussex County council wants right toi work so they can bring in slave wage manufacturing jobs, lol. Maggots
Maggots are born in garbage, which is what Delaware’s Democrats have turned the state into.
And sorry, trolls, that doesn’t mean we should vote for Republicans. That’s like “curing” cancer by dying of a heart attack.
A lot of people are calling bullshit on the process with the CZA. But, since now they are holding two workshops where they get to decide what people get to speak about, we have “transparency” or something. There is a link to a petition in the article. It will be presented to Garvin at the workshop on the 30th. Sign it if you are so inclined.
Just for the record, “Democrat” Ed Osienski, quoted in the NJ article as one of the bill’s lead sponsors, is the second-most-conservative Democrat in the General Assembly, according to the American Conservative Union, with only Lumpy Carson ranked as more accommodating to the conservative agenda among Democrats elected to state office.
It’s clear that someone has a specific plan to make a lot of $$ which the CZA changes are designed to allow. Starting with the end in mind as Covey would say.
“And sorry, trolls, that doesn’t mean we should vote for Republicans. That’s like “curing” cancer by dying of a heart attack.”
People have a long history of doing just that. Nov 7th, 2016 for example.
True. Doesn’t make it smart.
