BREAKING: Wilmington’s Ex-Top Cop To Run For Sen. Henry’s Seat
Bobby Cummings, apparently not concerned that nobody but WDEL and someone like me, I guess, are paying attention, said that he would kick off his campaign for the retiring senator’s seat next Friday.
Well. What does anybody/everybody think about that?

Regardless of how one ultimately feels about Cummings’ candidacy, I think we can all agree that he is light-years more deserving than Sam Guy.
I’ve always shared the sentiments of this blog that there are too many retired cops in high positions in Delaware politics. But….
Chief Cummings is a true class act and I’d be thrilled to see him representing SD 2.
You’re right about the ‘too many retired cops’ argument. And that’s an issue that we’ll no doubt discuss.
But state cops are a breed unto themselves. A cult consisting of the mantra, ‘We’re above the law.’
One concern I have about Cummings is he didn’t seem to be all that supportive of community policing. I’d like to hear more from him on that.
I like Bobby Cummings and I hope he kicks Sam Guys ass. I am not going to vote for anyone who is associated with the Potters. We need someone down at Leg Hall that his respected and liked by the Citizens in that District. Sam Guy would be a distraction down there. It’s bad enough we have Charles Potter there doing nothing and collecting a check.
Near as I can tell, Cummings has never been barred from practicing his profession due to ethical lapses. Sam Guy, OTOH? I think this is my fave among the many reasons why Sam Guy should be not allowed anywhere near elective office. From the Court’s response to Guy’s petition to get his law license back:
“Initially we deemed it appropriate that the Petitioner be suspended for seven months. We note that he has, in fact, remained suspended for almost eighteen months. Almost all of the delay during the reinstatement process can be attributed to the Petitioner’s (Guy’s) own conduct.”
I cannot make this stuff up.
Sounds like an echo chamber here, but yes, Bobby Cummings is a total class act.
A well liked, well known and well respected person.
Cops running for office make me nervous. I think there is far too much power and latitude given to the police in how they interact with citizens in this country and too often many cops use it and too many people end up dead or harmed. What we need is deep and thorough legislative reform to address it and not ex cops protecting their former colleagues.
