I was listening to a show called ‘Sound Opinions’, which is out of Chicago but which XPN picks up and plays on Sundays. The hosts were remembering those we lost in 2017. They told the story of how Little Stevie Wonder’s career was floundering after his pre-pubescent hit ‘Fingertips’, which was just an extended jam with Stevie’s harmonica. In fact, Motown was thinking of dropping him as Stevie’s voice was changing. Sylvia Moy, who passed away in 2017, essentially kept him at Motown. She wrote or co-wrote many of his hits during those transitional years, including My Cherie Amour. I didn’t know this, but the song sat on the shelf for two years until Wonder’s voice had made it through puberty. And here it is:
