1. Melanie George Smith To Retire. There is a reason why she announced her retirement when she did.  By the end of this weekend, we will all know why. Suffice it to say that her career was the product of legislative insiderism of the worst order. There was never a clamoring for her candidacy within […]

Interregnum; or musing before battle

Briefer still.

There are certain concepts people seem to understand in the abstract but can’t grasp in the totality of the moment.

Fortunately, there aren’t too many of these people. And more fortunate is some can be convinced to stop worrying and love the bomb.

The Delaware Way is a rotting carbuncle infecting our body politic. The only treatment against the staph is to kill it. Unfortunately, our abject apathy and lameness has allowed the boil to become resistant to the normal treatment.

If you think games are being played, trust me, they are not. This isn’t a parlor trick or Hail Mary pass. This is an indication of grave concern about where we are. This is about developing and executing a plan to make it crystal fucking clear that she is not another tired politician and will not abide the same tired shit.

For the many rather than the few. We’re all in this together. Saturday, February 10th.

Audere est facere.

Carney Budget: Raises All Around

Filed in Delaware by on January 25, 2018 26 Comments

Gov. John Carney unveiled his budget earlier today, and the decent DEFAC numbers have him feeling expansive. His blueprint calls for $4.25 billion in spending, an increase of 3.5% that he claims is sustainable but would be even more sustainable if the General Assembly had granted all his requests, which he won’t repeat in an […]

Art for Art’s Sake, Money for God’s Sake

That refrain from an old 10cc song leapt to mind when I saw this story about the White House asking the Guggenheim Museum to loan it a Van Gogh, “Landscape With Snow.” No dice, the Guggenheim responded, but we do have a lovely interactive sculpture titled “America,” no longer on display, that artist Maurizio Cattelan […]

Out of the box thinking on immigration

Out of the box thinking on immigration

Build a wall? Too expensive and won’t work. Fix the visa system? Too complicated, would require actual legislating and would not inflict enough misery.

Make America a shit hole that nobody wants to come to? We are already on it.

Open Thread Jan. 25: Horndogs and Tide Pods

We have an apparent blockade on real news this morning. The interwebs are clogged with stories about celebrities being accused of rape and sexual assault, a veritable cornucopia of horndogitude. Russell Simmons, David Copperfield, Nelly, even ugly-as-a-mud-fence porn star Ron Jeremy — which brings up the question, “Jesus, Ron, don’t you get enough of that […]

Heartbreaking

Tuesday’s Kentucky school shooting was the 11th school shooting since January 1st. That is appalling. It is a nightmare. It is a disgusting and abject failure. A permanent stain on our humanity. The parents of a Kentucky teenager who was fatally shot in a mass shooting at her high school this week said their daughter […]

Delaware General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thurs., Jan. 25, 2018

Last session day before the Joint Finance Committee meets. Meaning, today’s the day that Gov. Carney introduces his budget proposal, which then becomes the starting point for JFC deliberations. My expectations are low. Here is yesterday’s Session Activity Report.  Cerron Cade is the new Secretary Of Labor.  That’s about it. Little of interest on today’s […]

What are Coons and Carper even doing?

What are Coons and Carper even doing?

What’s the point of Delaware sending “Democrats” to the US Senate when they allow Republicans to get away with LITERALLY everything. For example, did you know the GOP used the shutdown to FURTHER chip away at the ACA by cutting key ACA related taxes? I didn’t. From their silence on the topic you have to wonder if Carper and Coons knew it.
