House Minority Leader Dan Short is the latest Delaware politician to pretend to care about the public while in thrall to the gun lobby. He criticized Gov. Carney’s call for banning assault weapons.
“We had a federal ban on assault weapons between 1994 and 2004. It proved ineffective.”
No it didn’t, shitbag. Look it up.
Short said defining what an assault weapon is remains too difficult to do anything, then proceeds to define assault weapons as “rifles capable of fully automatic fire,” while noting those are already illegal for most Americans to own.
“What the governor apparently means by the provocative term is any semi-automatic rifle resembling a military weapon, like the AR-15 rifle used in the recent Florida tragedy. According to the National Rifle Association, Americans own about five million AR-15s alone. Millions more semi-automatic rifles of other types are also owned by Americans – the vast majority of which will never be employed in any crime. Such rifles are ubiquitous.”
Uh, Danny Boy, “ubiquitous” means “everywhere.” Clearly, 5 million rifles — most owned by people who want to overthrow the government and have six months’ worth of canned goods in their basements — cannot be everywhere.
They are scared, and with good reason.
