Kerri Harris’ Carper Critique Makes Politico

Filed in National by on February 27, 2018

She makes an excellent point.  Banks are not exactly struggling to make payroll.

PROGRESSIVES PUSH DEMS ON SENATE BANKING BILL — The Senate’s banking regulatory reform bill is due to hit the floor as soon as next week. Progressives are pressuring Democrats to oppose it.
Per a roundup going out Monday from AFR’s Carter Dougherty: “Progressive activists from groups including Americans for Financial Reform, Credo, and Demand Progress have sent upwards of 400,000 messages to the Senate urging lawmakers to defeat S. 2155. … Sen. Tom Carper’s primary challenger is also making an issue of his co-sponsorship of S. 2155, noting that high bank profitability doesn’t suggest regulations are a burden.”

Carper is championing a bill nobody wants:

Per POLITICO’s Zachary Warmbrodt: “A survey commissioned by Americans for Financial Reform found that a majority of voters would oppose loosening regulations on banks between $50 billion and $250 billion in assets — a key provision of the bank deregulation bill that the Senate is expected to take up soon.

“According to the national survey by Public Policy Polling, 17 percent of voters support the change and 67 percent oppose it.

Nobody but bankers that is. Aka – Carper’s base.

  2. Alby says:

It should be noted that Chris Coons also is a co-sponsor of the “bipartisan” bill:

Democrat Co-Sponsors: Joe Donnelly (D-Indiana), Heidi Heitkamp (D-North Dakota), Jon Tester (D-Montana), Mark Warner (D-Virginia), Tim Kaine (D-Virginia), Angus King (I-Maine), Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia), Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri), Gary Peters (D-Michigan) Michael Bennet (D-Colorado), Tom Carper (D-Delaware), Chris Coons (D-Delaware) and Doug Jones (D-Alabama).

Yes, it really does say “Democrat” co-sponsors. Democrats, a word that apparently devolved from “Doormats,” don’t even stand up for themselves enough to tell Republics to address them correctly or get a punch in the mouth.

You’ll notice that everyone on that list comes from a red or purple state except for — you guessed it — Delaware’s Useless Duo.

Here’s USPIRG explaining why it opposes the bill:

    Duo
    = The DUDs.
    Perfectly descriptive acronym.

    ” Delaware’s Useless Duo.” – Alby

    “Useless” is waay too charitable.

Evil is the word you’re looking for.

This guy’s commenting is very boring.

  6. Tom Carper has always placed the interests of big banks over those of his constituents. A few examples from this article:

    http://delawareliberal.net//2016/12/06/how-tom-carpers-positions-and-votes-screw-people-and-help-rethugs-screw-people-volume-3/

    will suffice.

*Carper sponsored and voted for legislation that threw hundreds of thousands of people nationally into bankruptcy b/c MBNA and others wanted to force them into bankruptcy.

*Carper supported an amendment that protected wealthy citizens who could avail themselves of a loophole known as the ‘protected trust’ from being subject to the same bankruptcy laws as everybody else.

*Carper voted AGAINST restrictions on predatory lending practices and helped defeat that amendment by Sen. Durbin.

*Carper voted AGAINST an amendment protecting those whose bankruptcies were caused by identity theft.

*Carper voted AGAINST an amendment to protect debtors whose financial problems were caused by serious medical problems.

*Carper voted AGAINST an amendment to require enhanced disclosure to consumers regarding the consequences of making only minimum required payments in the repayment of credit card debt.

*Carper voted AGAINST a provision that would ensure that no elderly people in enough financial trouble to seek bankruptcy protection would lose their homes.

*Carper voted AGAINST an amendment that would protect servicemen and women from bankruptcies by predatory lenders charging usurious interest rates, and to allow them the protections of their own state laws in potentially keeping their properties.

In other words, Carper supported a loophole that only the wealthy could exploit, while voting against victims of identity theft, the elderly, the infirm, caregivers, members of the military and those who were victimized by predatory practices.

That man has no empathy for anybody but his campaign donors. At this point in his life, he is a horrible human being.

  7. Frank Sims says:

    Thank You for challenging Tom.
Continue to expose him for hypocracy he fosters and the false credit he takes on environmental issues.
He is too old to run just like he accused Sen. Roth.
    Thanks

  8. RE Vanella says:

Frank.. well done. Good spirit. Could have done without the ageism, but you’ve got the right idea.
