Seven Dover Democrats Pledge Gun Money to Charity
Matt Bittle of the Delaware State News posted the story late Monday: Seven Democrats in the General Assembly who took campaign donations from gun groups have pledged the money to charity.
Bittle’s list of Democrats who took donations goes back further than mine, and so included a couple of lawmakers not on my list, so those seven do not represent all Democrats in the General Assembly. According to Bittle, a Democratic caucus spokesman said Rep. Mike Mulrooney of New Castle and Sen. Bruce Ennis of Smyrna have no plans to give back their gun money.
Bittle reached Sen. Brian Bushweller, who was particularly snotty about it, saying he saw no reason not to keep the money. Really, senator? I can give you a couple, and will later today. Rep. William “Lumpy” Carson, D-Smyrna, could not be reached for comment.
The article includes comments from several of the lawmakers, as well as a statement by Democratic Party Chairman Erik Raser-Schramm commending the donations. So do I.

We congratulate our leaders who have redirected gun lobby donations to victims’ funds or advocacy groups, and we understand others intend to follow suit,” he said.
“As young people seize this movement and demand progress, we must show them that nothing will keep us from joining them in the fight for a safer America. And that means ensuring that not one red cent casts any doubt as to where we stand, or who we stand with.”
Lumpy couldn’t be reached for comment? They must’ve called the wrong bar.
Again we’re nearly 20 years since columbine. Sandy hook was not far from Delaware and they are just now doing it. It’s a typical politician panic reaction. I’d have been impressed if they just didn’t take the cash in the first place but then again they figured if they did take it no one would know. Now the hand is in the cookie jar they panic.
They should reconsider giving funds to a charity not affiliated with #NRA.
Is Bloody Bruce Ennis up this year? I don’t think so, but I’m not sure. By keeping his affiliation with the NRA he is openly on the side of mass murder. SD 14 includes many new neighborhoods that could give a fuck about Bruce’s old boy network.
He is 80 years old and soft on gun crime. If any Dem needs to face a primary, it is him.
He’s not up, he’s not in the best of health, doubt he will run in 2020. The big issue is: How will Bushweller and Ennis vote on the assault weapons ban? We might need at least one of their votes. Although…could you imagine if Lavelle votes against the ban? I think he’ll be a yes out of political necessity.
We can’t let the NRA change the subject. I hope that Carney has this bill ready to go when the General Assembly reconvenes on Tuesday.

I would hope that some Republicans are moving to help us get all NRA money out of Delaware politics.
For now, I’m focusing on the Democrats. We’ve come a long way in a short time, but it is going to take constant pressure to get to zero Democrats.
Don’t worry, I’ll get to the Republicans in short order.
It’s important to get all the Democrats on board so we can draw a bright line here. Those who won’t get on board, like Ennis, deserve defeat.
Its an oxymoron for “democrats” to be with the NRA. Any dem who still is after these killings should a) retire b) change parties. We can and should run a real dem against them and just vote them out.
