BREAKING: Rep. Mike Mulrooney To Retire
Rep. Mike Mulrooney (D-17th RD) has announced that he will not seek reelection, according to WDEL.
While Mulrooney has been especially strong on labor issues, he has also been one of the NRA’s staunchest supporters in the Delaware General Assembly. He was facing a primary challenge from Melissa Minor-Brown. In fact, both had filed for the primary. Minor-Brown was an RN with the Veterans’ Department, so she no doubt understands the damage that lethal weapons can do. In fact, she has talked about the need for stronger gun control laws on her Facebook page. She’s been going to all sorts of community meetings as well, so maybe Mulrooney simply saw the handwriting on the wall.
Mulrooney is a real likeable guy and, unlike John Viola, is smart and thoughtful. But his retirement does open up an opportunity for a candidate who will be stronger on the gun control issue. His New Castle-area district, which includes communities like Penn Acres and Wilmington Manor, is solidly blue, with current registration of 9939 D; 2629 R; and 3697 I. In other words, the primary will be the de facto general. Melissa Minor-Brown looks like a very worthy successor to Mulrooney.
Does Minot-Brown support Pistol Pete for Speaker?
That’s probably the LAST thing she’s thought about. Everything about her background and her campaign suggest that she’ll be a very good state rep., which is good enough for me.
Good question, anon. I wouldn’t be too worried about that detail right now. Pete’s politics are garbage and his little fiefdom is a testament to how disgusting the Delaware Democratic party is in reality.
We just don’t have the one-punch knockout power at the minute. We need to throw 100 well-place jabs per round. Wear them all out. Pistol Pete’s time will come.
Didn’t see El Som’s comment while I was making mine. I think we’re on the same page.
