Aug. 1 Open Thread: Head to Head, Biden 7 Up on Trump

In news that’s certain to pique the interest of a certain former vice president, polling shows Joe Biden thumping Trump 44-37 in a head-to-head matchup. On the other hand, while 80% of Democrats picked Biden over Trump, 87% of them chose a generic Democrat, meaning 7% of the Democrats polled wouldn’t go for Joe.

Trade wars are, in fact, not easy to win, which is why intelligent people don’t start them. Trump, however, having started one, should pay attention to all the unintended consequences. For instance, the tariffs that were supposed to spur the domestic solar panel industry is hurting it instead. This is why electing an ignorant fool with six bankruptcies on his CV isn’t a good idea, either.

Of course, the president has a lot on his mind, what with wondering which of his hundreds of illegal acts will get him in trouble next. His twitter feed just keeps getting crazier, and now he’s begging Jeff Sessions to un-recuse himself to end the terrible, horrible effort to catalogue each and every one of those hundreds of crimes.

Sadly for Trump, Sessions is busy catering to the poor, poor pitiful “Christians” who haven’t been free to demonize gays and atheists as much as they’d like to. That’s why he’s creating a “religious liberty task force.” How do you think these snowflakes would fare with a coliseum full of lions?

Is Trump’s attack on the Koch brothers a real fight or a stunt staged by Steve Bannon, who has wormed himself back into Trump’s good graces? Lots of people think it’s the latter.

Steve Schmidt, the UD grad who ran John McCain’s presidential campaign, made a big show of leaving the Republican Party. Insiders think it’s because he’s going to work for a Democratic candidate for president — Howard Schultz, the erstwhile CEO of Starbucks.
