Q: How worried is Tom Carper? A: Worried enough to put out this crazy lit piece

Filed in National by on August 7, 2018

Tom Carper is full of shit

It actually reminds me of Mike Castle’s last ditch attempt to re-brand as a handgun brandishing tough guy.

  1. RE Vanella says:

They got both “progressive values” and “working families” in there. Hilarious!

When I first saw it I thought it was parody.

  2. jason330 says:

Yeah. 30 point font and all. Also – all of a sudden for a $15 min wage? Hilarious.

  3. He’s now for things that he not only voted against, but in the case of a paltry $10.10 minimum wage, effectively killed.

  4. RE Vanella says:

This is why he won’t debate.

If anyone doubted Carper wasn’t running scared this should make it perfectly clear. He’s on the ropes. We have a month to finish him off.

  5. jason330 says:

Carper probably still has some political instincts, but this level of panic MUST be informed by some polling.

  6. RE Vanella says:

It’s speculative, but I think you’re very likely correct. He certainly has the dough to do some polling. And you look at the fake messaging here and it seems pretty obvious.

The thing that’s most amusing is, who does he think he’s speaking to? If a voter likes all that there is a much better option. Someone who actually believes it, not a phony on record doing the opposite.

Just run as an appendage of oligarchs and organized money. At least it’s consistent. This shit is embarrassing.

  7. They’ve clearly been polling. ‘Progressive’ is a trait that their polling shows that Carper needs to firm up. Carper has always been as polling-obsessive as the Clintons.

The progressive meme is clearly a lie. Can Kerri Harris effectively demonstrate that it’s a lie? It’ll take all of us.

  8. RE Vanella says:

Yep. You said it, El Som. Fact is Carper is on record. Killed any minimum wage increase, voted to put Kavanaugh on the DC Circuit, voted to create ICE, etc, etc…

Progressives don’t take corporate and PAC dough.

  9. bamboozer says:

Dare say young Tom remembers the plight of Mike Castle very well. As noted by the time Castle woke up and stopped playing his 20 year old “Delaware, Delaware” theme song Witchy Poo was already at the gate. As noted (repeatedly) Carper is just as much the tool of the rich and big corporations as any Republican. Ever. Usually the DINO is unrepentant, perhaps he really is feeling the heat.

  10. jason330 says:

“Don’t wait untill the 11th hour to rebrand.”

…is no dount one of the lessons Carper thinks he has learned from the primary defeat of his good friend.

    Too bad he didn’t learn…

“Don’t be a corporate owned tool and a fraud.”

  11. Progressive Tom Carper:

Voted to stop the donut hole in Medicare from being filled.

Voted against drug reimportation, which raised prescription costs for everybody. This, of course, at the behest of Astra Zeneca and his other Big Pharma contributors.

Voted to approve the Keystone Pipeline.

Voted against protecting victims of sexual violence in the military.

Voted AGAINST a provision that would have protected elderly folks from losing their homes.

Following the financial meltdown, voted AGAINST providing relief for homeowners facing disclosure.

Voted to cut cost-of-living adjustments for military retirees.

Voted to make it more difficult for debtors to declare bankruptcy, at the behest of those progressive stalwarts–Charles Cawley and the predators at MBNA.

Voted FOR a loophole to that very bill which enabled the very wealthy to avoid bankruptcy. That loophole is the ‘asset protection trust’ and is only available to the most wealthy.

Voted AGAINST legislation prohibiting predatory lending practices.

Voted AGAINST protecting victims of identity theft from those bankruptcy provisions.

Voted AGAINST preserving existing bankruptcy protections for individuals experiencing economic distress as caregivers to ill or disabled family members.

Voted AGAINST exempting debtors whose financial problems were caused by serious medical problems from means testing, an amendment sponsored by Ted Kennedy.

Yep, he’s a progressive all right. As progressive as Snidely Whiplash.

    • Albert S. Jackson Jr. says:

That’s is the best polemic I have seen on this dog. Thank you very much. Lets gut this snake three ways; long deep and freakquently. Your stuff is so strong if that gets out he can’t win. There won’t be anything left of this bastard. I love this shit.

  12. Paul says:

Carpers piece affirms the ACA. Apparently he missed the memo on Medicare for All

  13. Elaine Smith says:

I would like to see signs for KE Harris in north Wilmington. Those folks vote and I doubt they know her name. I could be wrong and maybe the signs are on the roads I don’t travel. Signage is old-school but that’s what a lot of the senior population in Brandywine Hundred notices. Is she campaigning in north Wilmington?

  14. Ben says:

I inquired about yard signs yesterday with the wilmington office.
cant get one. Looking into having my own printed.

  15. Tom also must be made to address the decisions he made as Governor, like the embrace of billionaire charter school founder Eli Broad.

Tom Carper = neoliberal policy and how do we fix that?

    Here’s a take for today –

But I will say this: it is absolutely essential that left parties cultivate people’s ability to understand, and critically engage with, the structure and logic of contemporary financial capitalism. I think Alexis de Tocqueville once said that you have to “educate democracy.” I would give this a Marxian twist: you have to educate capitalist democracy. There can be no left politics without a shared understanding of today’s specific economic circumstances, which are not like the circumstances of the 1930s or the 1970s. We live in a complicated world that is dominated by finance and holders of financial wealth, and this world needs to be unmasked.

  16. RE Vanella says:

Yes. Nancy is all over it.

    ………

“Right parties have never pretended to be representatives of the disempowered or advocates of policies that insulate people from market forces. The Right’s embrace of free markets in the 1980s was important, but it was not surprising. And I think it’s disputable that this was really a popular move, electorally speaking — this was a period of growing political alienation and declining turnout across the board. In this context, left parties were the only political force that was capable of critically engaging with market logic. But they did the opposite of this in the 1990s.

I think this had electoral and cultural consequences. Electorally, the “losers” of “globalization” — that is, a whole lot of people, including whole communities — ended up with no party that spoke for them. Culturally, criticism of the neoliberal order was marginalized and hived off as a province of the “radical” left, rather than being the stuff of mainstream political discourse — where it should have been all along.”

  17. Yard signs are prohibitively expensive, and campaign consultants have prioritized them lower than ardent campaign supporters have. They may work at a district level with a smaller universe. But the cost/benefit breakdown statewide is tough for those w/o tens of millions of corporate dollars funding them.

Having said that, I WISH there was more visibility for Kerri’s campaign. If more people were aware that there was a serious race going on, the better her chances would be for an upset.

    • Albert S. Jackson Jr. says:

The text message does the job old man. Its the most cost effective weapon there is in politics today. I do believe she has it. I contacted her we were supposed to meet but when the Burnie boys came to town I never got a confermation.

  18. RE Vanella says:

ASJ… Pop in the Wilmington office. 15th & Walnut across from Urban Bike Project). If Kerri isn’t there when you turn up arrangements can be made.

Also, grab a catfish sandwich and some greens at Evelyn’s. You’ll be happy you did. Best soul food in the city as far as im concerned.

  19. Dana Garrett says:

I wonder if Carper is focusing on protecting the grains of sand on Delaware beaches because he’s hoping for big downstate support. Perhaps he fears that his support in NCC is weak.

He’s come out for “affordable health coverage for everyone,” which is still privatized healthcare using the language that sounds like universal healthcare.

  20. waterpirate says:

His downstate radio onslaught reeks of desperation. Good riddance!

  21. The Thermanator says:

Carper is owned by John Doerr the Bloomdoggler at Bloom Energy. This is the year of the Bloomerang where Carper gets bitten in his behind for bringing Bloom Energy to Delaware

  22. Wasn’t that Markell?

And, for purposes of the blog, your handle would be even cooler if it was ‘The Thurmanator’, after longtime good ol’ boy ‘Uncle’ Thurm Adams.

  23. Albert S. Jackson Jr. says:

Greedy self centered Tom Carper 42 years at the public trough with four public pensions. Single handedly let our environment deteriorate for 8 years as Governor now we are now 49th with cancer in the 50 states. He is 71 and the 71st gov. I never seen the stat on cancer deaths in our state but be sure he will own it.

  24. Al – you can meet Kerri Friday night in Newark – she’s having a Townhall

  25. jason330 says:

Re the poll question. 1 & 5 are partisans, and both wrong.

#1 responders are just being dumb given all the fucking crazy “progressive” lit and statements Carper is making these days.

He may get to a #5, but I doubt he is there just yet.

The crowdsourced wisdom is pretty close to Carper’s actual level of worried right now: 3.43

He has begun to snap at underlings.

  26. Albert says:

Carper’s online presence is everywhere. He pretends to be an environmental champion but he was the devil as governor and the evidence is irrefutable.

  27. RE Vanella says:

Carper had his nonagenarian fan girl Sonia Schorr Sloan write a letter to the editor today in his support. I have no idea who is meant to convince.

The good news is when you actually run a real progressive the fact that a affluent 90 year old philanthropist supports the oligarch bootlicker makes it perfectly clear what we’re fighting against.

It’s actually pretty gross the more you watch the old money folks swoon over Carper, Coons, Biden, et al. And because the state is so small all these blue bloods know the politicians personally. They’re like little celebrities. It’s an exclusive private club, folks, and you’ll never be in it.

  28. Alby says:

Yesterday I received an 8-page glossy mailer making the same points. Hey, he’s gotta spend that corporate donation money on something. The union bug on it could not possibly be smaller; even with my 2x cheaters on, I couldn’t recognize it if I didn’t know what it was.
