Aug. 13 Open Thread: Supremacists So White They’re Invisible

Did the Unite the Right organizers really need to bother with a permit for their Sunday march in Washington? It attracted about 40 people, perhaps the biggest conservative crowd since Trump’s inauguration but still smaller than most family reunions. Naturally, thousands turned out to protest these pathetic mooks. The ones who should be embarrassed are the media people who built it up as if thousands of pale-skinned militiamen would goose-step down the street.

The most ironic thing about today’s “white” supremacists is how few of them would have passed muster under the racial order promulgated by their Nazi forebears. I see all sorts of ethnic surnames that are obviously Italian (part Aryan, but inferior to Nordics), Polish (subhuman) and Russian (lowest of all white races). Most ironic of all is Stephen Miller, the Duke-schooled conservative whose Jewish ancestors must be appalled — and Miller’s uncle wrote an essay in Politico to say so.

Reality show contestant and Trump’s Black Friend Omarosa Manigault has a book coming out — sorry, crayons not included — so she’s been releasing audio recordings she made, including one from her firing by John Kelly. I normally wouldn’t care, and I only do now because the beltway media is aghast that she made the recording in the Situation Room, which is a major breach of security protocol. Right. We have a president who’s in league with the Russians, but we should get worked up because an arbitrary security breach.

Today’s best Trump So Dumb story comes from Politico. In the course of pundit-splaining Trump’s “steep learning curve” on foreign affairs, they buried the lede: Trump thought Nepal was pronounced “Nipple,” and he thought it was part of India.

Guess which groups of oppressed snowflakes is upset over NFL players taking a knee? Yep, it’s the police union, the biggest group of whiners in the USA. They’re calling for police supporters to boycott the NFL.

Greatest voice of her generation Aretha Franklin is at death’s door, so you’re going to read a lot of pixels the next few days about her greatness. She earned every word of every paean, but in the interest of both-siderism let’s not forget that, like John Lennon, Miles Davis and other musical geniuses, she could also be a real jerk sometimes.
