Kraftwerk! now there is a blast from the past I thought I would never hear in the light of day. I thought it reserved to basement clubs in the village.
Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant
Highway Chile by The Jimi Hendix Experience
Crossroads by Robert Johnson
Penny Lane by the Beatles
Across 110th Street by Bobby Womack
After being glib on Can you should just admit how good a list this is and just do all 5.
Good list, although I think 110th Street is a real street. And…I have some other songs in mind. Although I just might deign to toss you a crumb, though. Wouldn’t want to discourage you.
Two late nominations for Train Song Week: “Trans Europa Express” by Kraftwerk, and “Don’t Sleep in the Subway” by Petula Clark.
TOO late! I do plan to revisit this theme at a later date, though.
The test of a song is – can it be covered by Rod Stewart and still be great? This song does that.

I own Autobahn on vinyl. Old times sake.
Speaking of Germany…. Anyone dig Can?
El Som … Maybe I can do a week of Can?
I want to reinforce my avant-garde street cred
.
Can? Can’t.
Oh! Look at you. Of all people summarily dismissing experimental “art” rock.
You! Ha!
Strange days, kids.
You are more than welcome to do an ‘alternative song of the day’ thread.
BTW, as my visions grow more esoteric and solipsistic, I present to you next week’s theme: thoroughfares that don’t exist…or do they?
Suggestions accepted.
Christ Almighty! Steve’s lost it….
Proposals…
Bluegrass songs about a rye distillery.
Proto AM disco ’72 to ’76.
Jug band tunes about horses.
Hmmm…jug band tunes about horses…intriguing…
For this week’s theme I request:
Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant
Highway Chile by The Jimi Hendix Experience
Crossroads by Robert Johnson
Penny Lane by the Beatles
Across 110th Street by Bobby Womack

I knew you had at least 14 tunes featuring a washboard… If only one were equine in allusion… 🙂

I never was a fan of Kraftwerk, but as time goes on I realize Kraftwerk inspired an entire generation of music I am also not a fan of.
Well put. I agree.
Fair enough.
