Let’s first establish the long-standing relationship between Sam Guy and the Potters. Guy, who lost his license to practice law for 18 months, was the attorney who tried to enable the Potters to get out of paying a contractor for work on their Brandywine Hills home. Both Sam Guy and Velda Potter have publicly lobbied for more dollars. Guy, for his council district slush fund, and Potter, for a salary increase. The Potter family and Guy have been in and out of ethical hot water forever. Velma lost her nepotistic job with Dennis Williams for misusing her office. The Potter family and Sam Guy are people who run for office to fill their pockets full of coin. They are the most unethical of the unethical.
Enter Colin Bonini, Dover-area Rethug state senator and occasional candidate for higher office. Now, kids, remember that the State Senate is currently comprised of 11 D’s and 10 R’s. There is not a single race out there where a D seat could realistically flip to the R’s. Unless…Sam Guy gets elected and caucuses with the R’s. Can you imagine the rewards the R’s would lavish on him? A spot on JFC or the Bond Bill Committee with the concurrent spike in salary? Access to all sorts of largesse from big-$$ R donors? I mean, he wouldn’t be going to Dover to represent the people who live in his district under any circumstances. Why not pile up the rewards for his four-year term and then exit laughing? Oh, and the R’s would probably force a ‘right to work for less compromise’ to permit any budget to even be considered. And they would tear a hole in the social safety net. I mean, look who the governor is. He doesn’t give a shit.
Here’s what Bonini did. On August 13, 2018, Bonini donated $600 to Sam Guy’s Senate campaign. On August 14, 2018, Bonini donated $500 to Charles Potter’s House campaign.
Guy and Potter are a package deal. Potter has contributed $400 to the Guy campaign. For $1100, Colin Bonini has placed a bet that Sam Guy will flip and caucus with the R’s if elected.
Anyone willing to take the chance that he won’t?
