I’m a pessimist by nature–and I’m pessimistic this evening. At least when it comes to the three key statewide races. I have the most hope for the Harris-Carper race. But the small turnout for that GOTV event last night concerns me. I’m not sure we’re quite there yet, at least not at the statewide level. Until/unless the voters most impacted by the corporate insider game revolt against it, we’ll still be a work in progress. That especially holds true for those who live in Wilmington. I hope that the results prove me totally wrong.
However, I have high hopes that several new progressive candidates will emerge tonight. In fact, I expect it. And, I have been so wrong before that I am fully prepared to eat loads o’crow. Looking forward to it, in fact.
Win or lose, Kerri Harris and Chris Johnson have emerged as progressive champions for now and for the future. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude…and a commitment to stand with them moving forward, win or lose.
I want to especially thank Kerri Harris for stepping up when nobody would. Who knew that we even had a Kerri Harris in our midst? Just a wonderful person, incredibly well-grounded, and precisely the kind of citizen who would make a great Senator. Thank you, Kerri, for stepping up.
Chris Johnson is one of the most impressive candidates I’ve ever met. My only pessimism is based on those fucking Jennings TV commercials. LBR Syndrome all over again. In a just world, Chris Johnson will play an integral role in Delaware’s future. I’ll be with him every step of the way.
Both Johnson and Harris, along with Eugene Young and several others, offer tremendous hope for the future. We’re on our way.
This will be the thread to share the results together and to engage in the dialogue we’ve offered here at DL for over a decade. To offer congratulations and possibly commiserations.
Now, for the results.
