The Anomynous Controversy™ has managed to obscure the most important revelation in the Brett Kavanaugh hearings: The future SCOTUS justice is a sack of shit who thinks nothing of lying under oath, which he has done repeatedly. This is prompting calls not just for denying him a Supreme Court seat but for impeaching him from his current appeals court position. This is precisely how Democrats can reverse the undemocratic takeover of the federal courts, provided we can find a way to grow balls for eunuchs like Tom Carper, Chris Coons and their Democratic Senate colleagues.
The last legitimately elected President of the United States gave a speech yesterday in which he called out the cowardly gasbag who followed him by name, which actually upset some of those in the pearl-clutching Beltway set, as that’s usually not done (none of these people mumbled a word when Dick Cheney said Obama was the worst president of his lifetime). Most, however, saw the speech as a reminder of what an actual president sounds like. It’s a somewhat risky move, given that repudiation of an African-American who was so obviously smarter than them is what drove a lot of racists to the polls in 2016.
The contrast with the current occupant of Obama’s old office couldn’t be more stark. Trump has been hitting his hotbeds of his support — all the places where his slack-jawed supporters don’t have shit-else to do — with his poor imitation of an insult comic working open-mike night. Even the mouth-breathers aren’t impressed anymore — one rally’s untergruppenführer had to swap out bored young audience members behind him after one made a “what the fuck?” face at some incoherent thing President Pumpkinhead said.
Like insult-comedy master Don Rickles, Trump also litters his act with maudlin moments. One of his favorites is the story about the regular people who approach him to thank him. The Toronto Star noticed that the story is recounted in every rally speech, always the same — except that these certainly non-existent “people” keep changing locale and occupation to suit the setting of each speech. He’s not just a grifter, he’s a lazy one.
The fine folks at Fox News, supposedly the crusaders for the working man, showed their true colors this week when they picked up a story about one-time “Cosby Show” actor Geoffrey Owens working at a Trader Joe’s in north Jersey. The pushback at this job-shaming has been overwhelmingly in Owens’ favor — TV mogul Tyler Perry offered him an acting gig almost immediately — but I hope people don’t lose sight of the Fox’s behavior. The elitism and bullying they demonstrated here is how they actually view America’s working people, even as they milk them dry.
