This is from the Richard & Linda Thompson infamous “Tour From Hell”. Richard had taken up with another woman, but contractual obligations forced them to tour together following the release of ‘Shoot Out The Lights’. ‘Shoot’ was a compelling chronicle of the disintegration of their relationship and one of the best albums of the 1980’s. During the tour, Linda famously read a newspaper onstage while Richard engaged in patter with the audience. Yet, that album spawned this song, with Richard and Linda onstage together:
