Dotard Congratulates Storm Victim on Swell Yacht in His Yard

This is why they only let Donnie out of the White House to go to his golf clubs or campaign rallies — he can’t hide his mental decline in any other venue.

After telling one victim collecting a box lunch to “have a nice day,” his wranglers took him to a neighborhood where Trump talked to an older guy with a badly damaged home and an enormous sailboat in the yard, a scene so surreal it looks photoshopped. The man told Trump his insurance company was balking at paying for the damage. Trump replied, “At least you got a nice boat out of the deal.” In case you think he was just making a tasteless joke, he later mused to reporters:

“I think it’s incredible what we’re seeing. This boat just came here. They don’t know whose boat that is. What’s the law? Maybe it becomes theirs.”

I’m sorry, but forget that he’s president — anybody who would say that isn’t in full possession of his mental faculties.

“This boat just came here.” Yeah, no shit. But not by magic. Did you recall that you were here to survey storm damage?

“They don’t know whose boat that is.” No, the homeowner doesn’t. He has higher priorities at the moment. But that registration number on the yacht will be an important clue, Sherlock.

“What’s the law?” Gee, if only you had a staff to look it up for you.

“Maybe it becomes theirs.” If marine salvage laws apply, someone — maybe me! — could get a free yacht!

That’s how dementia works — the sufferer’s world shrinks around him and his preoccupations become magnified. Trump gets most of his preoccupations from Fox News, but when they get him away from the TV to expose him to normal Americans, his abnormalities are thrown into sharp relief.

Republican lawmakers, especially the senators, see this in real time and do nothing about it. As the truth about Trump’s mental state becomes known in the near future, these lawmakers will have an impossible task trying to explain away their malfeasance.
