Sept. 20 Open Thread: GOP Senators Want a Justice Who Glows in the Dark

Republicans remain committed to forcing radioactive Brett Kavanaugh on an ungrateful nation, but a few of them fret to WaPo’s Robert Costa about the political fallout of ramming through the nomination. Republican senators are basically putting their hand over the victim’s mouth and pawing at her all over again, a nice image for women to carry into the voting booths, but because they’re all white men, this never occurred to them.

As has been pointed out, Republicans really, really don’t want any hearing with Christine Blasey Ford at all, because they know that on TV a bunch of old men grilling a woman will look like “The Handmaid’s Tale.” As if only “looking like” that dystopia were the problem.

The “Ron DeSantis Is a Racist” narrative was repeated yet again via the bigoted tweets of a financial backer. That’s the problem with being a racist candidate — all sorts of tangentially related things come up to remind the media of your racism.

Hey, gang, ‘memba the Anonymous controversy back in the mists of last week? Salon commissioned the guy whose textual analysis concluded that Joe Klein wrote “Primary Colors” to scrutinize the infamous New York Times op-ed. I’ve read Don Foster’s book, “Author Unknown,” and he explains his methods clearly, both there and in his detailed analysis of the op-ed. I won’t ruin the surprise, but I’ll say you won’t be totally surprised at his conclusion. He admits he’s not 100% sure it’s the guy (yes, it’s a guy), but the evidence is pretty strong.

The most-read story on Politico today speculates, “What if, when the end comes however it comes, Trump won’t go?” With Halloween approaching, there’s nothing the crowd likes better than a horror story.
