Song of the Day – 80s/protest/Gay Wrap Up – The Pogues “Fairytale of New York”
It isn’t a protest song per se, but this Pogues song captures the scam that has been run on the middle class and poor and squeezes it into a Christmas song that is maudlin, happy, nostalgic, and timely all at the same time. The fairytale of New York is also the fairytale of America and the fairytale of the American dream.
And here is one of my favorites from the Housemartins.
