The Kavanaugh False Narrative
So… the media has been framing the Kavanaugh “debate” around who do you believe? Do you believe Christine Blasey Ford or do you believe Brett Kavanaugh. That’s a bullshit construct though.
The question is not who do you believe, but does it matter that Brett Kavanaugh did that shit?
Everyone knows he did it. By everyone, I mean everyone. Tom Kline, Dana, Brett Kavanaugh’s wife, Lindsey Graham. Everyone. They all know he did that shit, but they don’t think it matters.
They think it doesn’t matters because control of the Supreme Court is THAT important. Or, think it doesn’t matters because they don’t think sexual harassment it a real thing*. Or, think it doesn’t matters because boys will be boys. Or they think it doesn’t matters because TEAM RED motherfuckers! For whatever reason, it doesn’t matter. That’s the honest position.
Claims to “believe” Brett Kavanaugh’s version are just silly.
*I’m old enough to have worked with men of a certain age who simply could not understand the concept of workplace sexual harassment.
And I’m old enough to remember (hell, yesterday) that “everyone knows he did it” was the weakest logical position known to man, hell, ANYBODY.
For example, see above.
Even Faithful Skeptic knows he did that shit. He simply thinks it doesn’t matter.
Speaking for and as Faithful Skeptic, I do NOT know that he “did it.” I find Ford’s story compelling and her courage remarkable in the face of the firestorm she had to see coming. Alas, the years made dim so many facts that she had little chance of convincing reasonable people, on her own, that Kavanaugh provably did what she asserted he did.
The hearing on her charges was not about evidence, there was no documentation. It was a hearing about credibility and the R’s were stalwart for their man. And that, alas, was case closed.
“she had little chance of convincing reasonable people, on her own, that Kavanaugh provably did what she asserted he did.”
Begs the question: Reasonable according to whom? I think I’m reasonable and I concluded, based on the competing narratives, that he probably did it. His history of lying makes him the more probable liar.
But according to you, that makes me not reasonable. So, y’know, I’ll just say the opposite so we’ll be even — reasonable people generally make good judgments when presented with the facts, even in he said-she said sexual assault cases. Juries sit on such cases every day. I wonder how many of them are “reasonable.”
Speaking for and as Faithful Skeptic, I do NOT know that he “did it.”
That’s a lie.
Similarly it doesn’t matter to these people that Russia aided Trump. The fight isn’t over “Did it happen.” It is well established that it happened. The argument is “Does it matter?”
If you gave most of them truth serum the most likely rationalization would be – It simply doesn’t matter because TEAM RED motherfuckers!
“It simply doesn’t matter ”
One of the first groups to exhibit that characteristic were the evangelicals for whom all manner of human foibles were simply the Lord’s will. That’s how they rationalize Trump today – The Lord works in mysterious ways and nothing matters but a return to the good old days when men were men and everyone knew their place.
Eventually all this will end, and it pains me, the eternal optimist, to say that I don’t know that it’s going to end well. Sometimes I go to sleep at night thinking the end times are upon us and I pray I am wrong.
I think it’s the Team Red. They could have found another judge just as conservative but without the baggage. If all they cared about was control of the court, Trump could have pulled Kavanaugh and still gotten a conservative Judge through.
He was forced down the nation’s throat and he’s going to get “boofed” back up as soon as Ds get control for lying to the Senate.
What baggage does he have?
A suitcase full of beer, apparently.
Did someone say baggage?
Lawsuits point to large trove of unreleased Kavanaugh White House documents
“he’s going to get “boofed” back up as soon as Ds get control for lying to the Senate.”
Under what scenario? The House can pass articles of impeachment by a simple majority, but it takes 67 Senators to remove a Supreme Court justice from office.
But it only takes a House investigation to cause mayhem. And you forget that, at some point, even his own people will turn on Trump because throughout human history they always have.
Bizarre thinking. Please post your therapist notes…
As opposed to being bizarre without the thinking, like you.
He tries his best!
We already have Kavanaugh’s the rapist notes.
