A Brexit Post
Like all Americans, I don’t pay much attention to Not America.
But I know enough about Brexit to know the Brittish fucked themselves out of shortsighted-racist-old-white-guy-malice. This tweet seems to sum it up:

The thing is, the best way to understand Theresa May’s predicament is to imagine that 52 percent of Britain had voted that the government should build a submarine out of cheese.
David Cameron was an idiot. It should have required a majority of the country – not a majority of the voters. Oh well.
To paraphrase Professor Richard Wolff, if at the end of the day’s work you feel a sneaking suspicion that something was stolen from you it’s because something has been stolen.
The working classes and the working poor see a system designed to make international finance easier, to improve Walmart’s supply chain, to increase profit margins on mobile phones…
…all on the backs of waiters, bartenders, plumbers, taxi drivers, delivery drivers, nurses and teachers.
Professor Mark Blyth’s book Austerity make this very clear.
Brexit
Trump
Italy
Yellow Vests
All the same.
UK has rising homelessness (what they call “rough sleeping”). People are dying. But the elites want to ensure the very highest bond yields.
Marcon just raised the French minimum wage on top of rolling back the petrol tax.
This is democracy. The best person to lead the UK through Brexit is the person who understands this dynamic best.
GET. JEZZA. IN….
Undoubtedly some part of the Brexit vote was driven by a reaction to the globalization that is intended to benefit capital, first last and always.
But it seemed overtaken by anti-muslim, anti-immigrant racists, and done in such a half-assed, ill-considered way that bartenders, plumbers, taxi drivers, bankers, and financiers are all going to get kicked in the balls.
I’m not saying it’s a rational decision. I’m saying I understand why the decision was made.
People are so desperate in the US that they voted in a crude, crass, know nothing con man thinking he was one of them lol.
Yeah, Trump isn’t one of them, but neither were any of the other neoliberal rat fucks. They’d rather have a dipshit than a smooth corporate operator.
They only thought he was one of them, but they knew she was not.
So their perceptions are no more accurate than a coin flip.
why cant you get over Clinton? Did she not return your fan mail or something?
I think he’s just commenting on the decision. That’s what happened.
Insofar as to say, like, don’t make the same mistake.
The same mistake as what? voting for Jill Stein because mean lady and stupid man dont personally show deference to me?
Like since there’s only one party that can stop this maybe consider nominating someone who wasn’t on the board at Walmart or who isn’t friends with Henry Kissinger (or both).
You know my position on strategic voting. You going to pretend you’re confused?
And yeah, the racist, xenophobic trash people come to the fore during these times. They are horrible people. The only way to snuff that out is to reorganized the system to improve the material condition of people rather than decimate the material condition of people to ensure the masters of the universe can do international finance deals and streamline their supply chains.
It’s not linear. Yes, it’s easier to hate the immigrant than the Bain Capital Executive. But neutralizing the Bain Capital Executive will ease social and cultural resentment.
Please don’t tell the MAGAts about the cheese submarine. They’ll want one.
