Shootings Down in Wilmo, Self-Congratulations Way Up
Something appears to be working.
Wilmington police and government officials celebrated a steep decline in citywide gun violence Thursday, marking a 60 percent decline in shooting victims with a press event which included a brief look at one of the new strategies they said made it possible.
Media was allowed into a portion of the police department’s weekly CompStat meeting, a time in which police commanders analyze crime numbers and develop responses to statistical patterns. CompStat now is a two-year-old crime strategy in Wilmington.
