A somewhat obscure item in the Petty catalog, “Walls” was written for Edward Burns’ 1996 rom-com “She’s the One” and released on the film’s soundtrack album, which got far less attention than a normal Petty album. As a single it reached only No. 69 on the Hot 100, despite background vocals (and, I suspect, the arrangement of them as well) by Lindsey Buckingham and a video featuring a glimpse of the film’s star, Jennifer Aniston (at 2:28 on the clip). Petty recorded two versions for the soundtrack album. The second one was faster and acoustic.
No, this is not intended to be topical, because the chorus claims “you got a heart so big it could crush this town.” The only part of Trump that big is his ass. He could, however, learn a lesson from the last line: “Even walls fall down.”
