Where’s Lisa?

Filed in National by on February 8, 2019

Has Lisa Blunt Rochester done anything to resist Trump? Has anyone heard of anything? Has she even arrived in DC yet? I’m seriously asking. This corrupt, criminal administration is waging a daily war on our democratic values.

The House is in the hands of Democrats now. The Rep from Delaware has no excuse for laying low. She can actually do something about Trump now. She isn’t.

Lisa is MIA in this fight.

B-b-but, she’s the ‘First Woman Of Color’ to hold the position. Isn’t that enough?

  2. el somnambulo says:

I’m not sure what the term ‘identity politics’ means, but in my cloistered world, I see it as ‘vote for me BECAUSE I’m the first (fill in the blank) to win this office.’ I would gladly vote for her if she was a progressive woman of substance in Congress. But she hasn’t even cut herself loose from her Carperesque ties yet, and there are no signs that she will.

Is it too soon for Tizzy Lockman to primary her yet?

    Where’s Lisa?
Saw her this morning. A big portrait, anyway. In the main hallway of the Brandywine YMCA. Something about Black History Month.
    Your point, exactly.

Let me just say I love Lisa personally. She’s funny, vibrant, and full of energy. That being said, I’m beyond done with her using the word “bipartisan” 28 times in each of her Facebook Live video postings. I get it, Congresswoman, you represent an at-large, entire-state district and you want to be sure Republicans aren’t left out. But this is very different times. “Bipartisan,” to Republicans, requires Democrats to bend over at every whim.

I’ve really been disappointed by Lisa in some respects. If she continues down this path, then her feeling of entitlement to Carper’s Senate seat, quite frankly, will freak me out just a bit more.

      Well said.

“Congresswoman, you represent an at-large, entire-state district and you want to be sure Republicans aren’t left out. But this is very different times. “Bipartisan,” to Republicans, requires Democrats to bend over at every whim.”

Exactly. Also – why spend so much time trying to suck up to a bunch of people who didn’t vote for her AND WILL NEVER VOTE FOR HER? It is 1998 style, empty-headed bi-partisanship that ignores the reality of the past 20 years.

      thanks for commenting.

He district is the whole state so she needs to act in the interests of the whole state and raise some hell about lots of things. I’ve not seen her presence anywhere doing anything.

  6. delacrat says:

She never co-sponsored the “Improved Medicare-for-All” bill HR676.

Where is Lisa? Well, that’s where she’s not.

  7. jason330 says:

This post is up on Twitter. If you are on Twitter, do me a favor and retweet with @lisab..etc.

  8. Delawaredude says:

But all the white guilt folks at Network DE feel better about their whiteness voting for her

  9. Arthur says:

How dare you question her!!!! She is part of Delaware Royalty. Her exemplary representation is above reproach! You are lucky to have her representing you. Whatever state/country/island she is in right now is not of your concern.

  10. donviti says:

I don’t understand why her being black isn’t enough for you.

  11. donviti says:

She should ride the train to DC. That really works with the common folk. Plus it shows she’s on her way to work. And we all know that just showing up to work is like 90% of the way to actually working.

    • jason330 says:

Here is the thing that I couldn’t put my finger on prior to reading some comments here. I think with her patrician background she doesn’t really want to be seen working. It is like beneath someone of her station in life.

      • donviti says:

I saw her speak at the Dover AFB State of the Base. It was god awful trying to see her relate to that crowd, and plus she was following our very own Nam Vet and the dude that speaks swahili and goes to pancake and prayers with adulterers.

I think she felt like she could wing it that day. Go with her gut and she’d be fine. It was not fine at all. I assume this is the same approach being taken to her serving Delawareans.

I want to have that comment put on a plaque, and hung in her office.

    I think I’ve said something like this before;
A second-term female minority Congresswoman, from a single Rep state has probably less of a built-in caucus than anyone in Congress. She can’t afford to join in the flamethrowing. Does anyone here really think the current administration is above shuttering Dover AFB or the Elsmere VA to retaliate? Who is going to shed any tears for the credit card state where we’ve made an art form out of taking $$ from the citizens of other states?
I think you guys are being too harsh.

    • jason330 says:

      And another thing Rufus,

Her job isn’t to keep her powder dry so she can have an easy re-election. HER JOB is to represent the people who sent her to Washington.

And even if her job was to set up an easy re-election, she isn’t going to do that by making nice with Republicans.

    • donviti says:

She doesn’t know how hold a flamethrower, let alone operate one of those long lighters I use to light my 18″ yule log on Christmas eve.

I’m quite confident she needs someone to tell her how to turn on the flashlight app on her phone to be honest.

  14. jason330 says:

“She can’t afford to join in the flamethrowing.”

    BULL-SHIT!!

Every elected person’s job right now is fighting Trump. Every, fucking, one.

If she doesn’t get that, if she can’t stand the heat, she should get out of the way.

” Does anyone here really think the current administration is above shuttering Dover AFB or the Elsmere VA to retaliate? ”

Make him fucking do it. Democrats don’t get any points for being nice.. have you been alseep?

I’m not too harsh, you are too clueless. You don’t see this as a fucking crisis? Jesus, what would need to fucking happen for you to wake up?

  15. Bane says:

Maybe Townsend should run against her again?

  16. Point of Order says:

I did a Google search for news items concerning LBR. It seems she co-sponsored HR 987 MORE — Health Education Act to reverse cuts to AHCA. Does that qualify for fighting tRump? That was only the most recent thing she’s done.

Near as I can tell, she hasn’t missed a day of session, although there is a “not voting” on a day she voted in other votes. She’s definatly showing up for work.

Did you know she donated her January salary to help Delawarans through the government shutdown? Looks like she’s working for her constituants to me.

I get that you want a flamethrower to represent you. I don’t. I’ve learned all motion is not progress. Unless I see support FOR tRump, I will take her opposition to him as read.

BTW, AOC hasn’t co-sponsored HR 676 either. Still, I don’t doubt her opposition to tRump.

  17. jason330 says:

“I get that you want a flamethrower to represent you. I don’t.”

Because you work for her. No doubt.

    • Point of Order says:

Let me be clear, for all time and purposes. I work for myself. I eat my bread in the sweat of my brow.

Specifically, I don’t work for LBR in any capacity, nor is she a client.

You should very much be in doubt.

I think there is room for both flamethrowers and the people who get things done. In fact, you need both. They are seldom the same person.

      • Alby says:

I don’t think anyone is asking for a flamethrower. They just want more than a votive candle.

And what, precisely, is she “getting done?” There are lots of people in Congress — the majority, I would wager — who don’t shoot flames or get things done. LBR is going to have to demonstrate, better than she has so far, that she’s not one of those.

@Rufus: If the US defense budget were cut to where it should be, Dover AFB would be gone.

        • Rufus Y. Kneedog says:

As would a good many others.
As far as getting things done, I can’t think of a single initiative or signature issue begun by DE’s US Rep. in at least 20 years aside from Castle and his quarters. They have no juice, no built in caucus.
She shows up, votes the right way, wears the appropriate color suit when called for and stays with the herd. You are free to expect more from her if you’d like but I think you’re being unrealistic. Fire away.

          • jason330 says:

Shorter Rufus: Poor members of Congress. All the pomp and circumstance but with all the power of wayang puppets.

Shorter Me: Rochester enjoyed being in the minority too much. She got all the pomp and circumstance but with no responsibilities. Unless she gets her shit together, we will be looking for new representation.

  18. jason330 says:

But to be fair to Point of Order, let me say what I think qualifies as resisting Trump.

-Be seen to be resiting Trump in public statements and in statements on the floor of Congress.

-Be visible resisting Trump in the district by speaking at events organized around resisting Trump.

-Publically support efforts to force the release of Trump’s tax returns.

-Write opinion pieces for the News Journal attacking Trump’s brazen criminality and corruption.

I think there is a lot for anyone who understands that we are in a crisis situation. If LBR doesn’t think we are in a crisis situation, that speaks volumes.
