Park City invokes thoughts of mountains.. Florida has a mountain..Delaware doesn’t have a mountain…Iron Hill should be designated as a mountain (Iron Hill Mountain)…More to come when I sober up…I’m serious….Big money in mountains.

Ok so, Iron Hill is not the highest point in Delaware, but it does have the greatest prominence, or vertical drop as we used to say in the ski industry.
Iron hill is an offshoot of the Piedmont, in fact Iron Hill is a “piedmont mountain” in the European definition, and the fact that it stands out from the coastal plain, lends itself even more to this fact.
After acclimating to the flats of lower slower and while crossing the Bill Roth Bridge on my rare trips north, Iron Hill definitely looks like a small mountain me. This is coming from someone who lived at 10,000 ft on the Continental Divide for six years.
With the exception of Rhode Island, which has hills over 800ft, I believe Delaware is the only state on the East Coast without a mountain, and I would bet that Rhode Island would soon have a mountain if Delaware had one.
Delaware could use a little gravitas, and giving it a mountain would literally do this…And I think it would be hilarious if Newark was a mountain town.
I don’t think the highest point is a requirement. Sugarloaf Mt is the 4th or 5th highest point in Florida.

Nah..My pipe dream is Delaware maple syrup…lol. Don’t you remember? I figured someone up north could do this. There doesn’t seem to be any set rules on the designation and nomenclature of mountains and Iron Hill is higher than Sugarloaf Mt. I guess the first step would be some sort of petition…Have at it.
Global warming is putting even the New England states’ maple syrup production at risk. We have neither the latitude nor the altitude needed to promote good sap flow.
The pipe dream thing is kind of joke, but on occasion I have tapped trees for maple syrup here in Sussex. Red Maples produce plenty of sap but they don’t have as much sugar as a Sugar Maple. You also pretty much have to do this in Jan-Feb as opposed to Springtime. All you need is to have a good freeze at night and above freezing temperatures during the day for the sap to run.
Yeah, I have red maples in the front yard. You have to be careful about when you prune them for that reason.
But you’re right, it’s all in the marketing. “Maple syrup” sounds so much better than “tree sap.” Just like “soy milk” sounds better than “bean juice.”
I just don’t get it. Did you see the video of her announcing the fact that she’s bringing in an outside firm to assess the operations of the office? Maybe if we had some one with experience, we wouldn’t be blowing tax dollars on consultants. She’s going a great job selling the fact she has no idea what she’s doing.
She has plenty of idea what she’s doing. It just has nothing to do with auditing, and everything to do with branding. Lesson: Don’t vote an entrepreneur into public office.
