Every time I hear another attack on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez this song pops into my mind.
Some people say this is the Dan’s answer to John Lennon’s “Imagine,” (Lennon, remember, was the “Fool on the Hill”), belittling the idea of “a world where all is free.” This being Steely Dan, that’s open to some interpretation — are they speaking for themselves or is this another of their hapless unreliable narrators? — but keep in mind that Steely Dan were rather famous for scorning hippie idealism.
