Trump’s “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” 2020 strategy

Filed in National by on June 13, 2019

Why wouldn’t Trump want to continue to break the law by working with Russia, and bring North Korea into the fold? Accepting help from foreign governments is proven to work. He was rewarded with the Presidency and continues to be rewarded by a do-nothing congress.

In a new interview released this afternoon by ABC News, President Trump tells George Stephanopoulos that he’d take information from a foreign government if one offered dirt on his 2020 opponent. “I think you might want to listen, there isn’t anything wrong with listening.”

President Trump rejected the idea that such foreign government interventions amounted to election interference. “It’s not an interference, they have information — I think I’d take it. If I thought there was something wrong, I’d go maybe to the FBI — if I thought there was something wrong. But when somebody comes up with oppo research, right, they come up with oppo research, ‘oh let’s call the FBI.’ The FBI doesn’t have enough agents to take care of it. When you go and talk, honestly, to congressman, they all do it, they always have, and that’s the way it is. It’s called oppo research.”

Trump’s legal strategy is to brazenly assert that crimes are not crimes. Accepting anything of value such as electoral help from a foreign government is a crime. “No, it isn’t.” That is Trump’s entire defense.

It only works if Democrats agree with Trump that crimes are not crimes. That seems to be working thanks to Reps like Lisa Blunt Rochester who are absolutely silent.

Even “Fox and Friends” host and knit-wit with the President’s ear, Brian Kilmeade, gets why this is illegal:

“You don’t want a foreign government or foreign entity giving you information because they will want something back,” he said Thursday morning. “…If someone wants information they want influence. I think the President’s got to to clarify that…He opened himself wide up to attacks.”

Of course he looks at it through the strategy lens, but still…

It’s awful while it’s going on, but once it’s over I don’t see how Republicans ever recover. Once this is over they might as well rebrand as the National Socialist Party.

      They know that.

So the only other end state that they have is full on totalitarianism. I’m sure they are working on that in various right-wing think tanks and policy shops.

Meanwhile, LBR blissfully rises above the fray.

“What’s the problem that Tim Cook told me about the huge new apple was going to release 2 days from now? Its not illegal to listen.”
