July 4, 2019
Dear Friend,
Today marks the 243rd birthday of the world’s oldest, greatest experiment in democracy, the United States of America!
The celebration of our nation’s birthday is one of my favorite holidays because we have the opportunity to celebrate it together with friends, family and all of our fellow Americans. Each year, I look forward to joining parades throughout Delaware as we honor our state’s unique history in our country’s founding. If you see me along the route in Smyrna-Clayton, in Bethany Beach or in Hockessin, be sure to give me a wave! But between all of today’s festivities with parades and fireworks, we should also take a moment and recognize the brave men and women of our armed forces who have fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.
This day also reminds me of the work remaining to make our nation a more perfect union. We can, and always should, strive to do better. But today, we celebrate the important steps our great nation has taken toward equality for all, and the men and women who dedicated their lives to get us here.
On this special day, I want to wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday. I’d love to hear how you are celebrating the Fourth of July and what this holiday means to you through email or on Twitter or Facebook.
I wish you all a happy and safe Independence Day!
What to make of this? I think the best explaination is that it is a “weekend at Bernies” situation in which Carper’s staff is trying to give the impression that Tom Carper is still alive.
