Song of the Day 7/22: Dave Mason, “We Just Disagree”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on July 22, 2019

A message for people who know who they are.

Dave Mason is one of those rockers who, like Mick Ronson, was famous as a sideman but never became a front-rank star himself. He’s best known as a founding member of Traffic, a group he subsequently left and rejoined several times. He also did a good bit of studio work in the late ’60s and early ’70s, most notably playing acoustic rhythm 12-string on “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix. His solo career was respectable but never made him a star. In the mid-’90s he even filled in for Lindsey Buckingham in Fleetwood Mac for an album and tour.

This song, from his “Let It Flow” LP of 1977, was written by the backup guitarist in Mason’s touring band, Jim Krueger. It reached No. 12, making it the highest-charting single of Mason’s solo career.
