What a literal breath of fresh air. His op-ed in the News-Journal outlines an aggressive environmental agenda, including the following:
- Better water quality, prohibiting new major developments on septic systems
- Greater forest conservation and tree planting
- Improved management of community open spaces
- Reduced carbon emissions through energy efficiency and solar, wind and geothermal energy production on commercial properties
- Limitations on landfills, protecting quality of life in all of our county’s communities
- Preserving and enhancing views along scenic byways
In fact, County Council will consider ordinances at tonight’s Council meeting to limit landfill heights (no thanks to sell-out Darius Brown) and to incentivize cleaner energy in commercial buildings. With new additions to Council, these ordinances have a great chance of passage. Meyer has found his footing as NCC Exec, and I find these environmental initiatives to be laudable. And, as opposed to what passes for our governor, isn’t it nice to have an elected official who actually has an agenda?
