All these investigations have Trump on the run — literally. In another of an endless series of petulant wee-hours tweets, Trump announced he is leaving New York to make Florida his permanent home, which lots of well-off people do to dodge taxes. That doesn’t seem to be Donnie Two Scoops’ reason, though, given that he doesn’t pay taxes in the first place. David Cay Johnston recaps.

With the economy sputtering along and impeachment and elections looming, Trump wants to apply the standard GOP solution to any problem: another tax cut! It’s the shiniest object in their firmament. Trump also is mulling a fireside chat broadcast of him reading the “transcript” of his Ukraine call. The man’s a geyser of great messaging ideas, they say.

Worried that Elizabeth Warren would walk into the trap being set for her by demands to know how she’d pay for universal health care? She’s got a plan to pay for that, and she released it this morning.

The Delaware State News, in its last days as a free site, covers the Kent County lodging tax/DE Turf controversy, along with the news that Levy Court has postponed its hearing on the proposal.

TNJ’s Matt Albright blames the Delaware Way for the state’s public education problems and cites the disparity in teacher pay and experience between suburban schools and those in Wilmington as an example of situations nobody in Dover wants to tackle.

  1. Alby says:

Bernie Sanders visited Desus & Mero to discuss his campaign and, at the 5:25 mark, guess the prices of collector footwear.

  2. Arthur says:

Youve got to love how albright has swallowed the Coons definition of the delaware way. no the delaware way is greed, nepotism, last minute and back room dealing

  3. mediawatch says:

You might note that the trailer on Albright’s column refers to him as the “outgoing engagement editor” but that has nothing to do with his personality. He’s gone, left no forwarding address on his do/NJ email.
I suspect he might have been worn out working at a media entity that tirelessly supports the Delaware Way.

  4. Rufus Y. Kneedog says:

    From the Albright article:
“But the Delaware Way won’t acknowledge this out loud, because the clear implication is that we need to shake up a system that a lot of people are benefiting from.”
This illustrates a big part of the problem. No one “benefits from” crappy schools. Education funding is portrayed as a zero sum game – we can’t improve Wilmington schools without taking resources from suburban schools and that is horseshit. This goes right up there with “we can’t just throw money at the problem” so we’ll do nothing.

    • Alby says:

A majority of white suburbanites started treating it as a zero-sum game as soon as the feds handed down the desegregation order.

  5. RE Vanella says:

Albright is returning home. He is going to be an assist editor of some sort at the Advocate in Baton Rogue. Same owner as the Advocate/Times Picayune in New Orleans.

  6. Overtaxed says:

New York, New Jersey, Delaware – They all are losing us…

    • Alby says:

Well, sure, if you want to live among the sort of people who are as obsessed with money.

      Overtaxed. What a riot.

      • meatball says:

Not to be obsessed with money or anything but this article is a joke. I moved from Delaware to Florida and my property taxes are 5x what I paid in DE for a less expensive home and are reassessed every year. Likewise, my car and homeowners insurance with the same company that I used in DE and without a single claim are both double. The gasoline tax is exactly the same as DE as is Amazon (except now I pay 7% sales tax). Florida might work as a tax haven for people wealthy enough to benefit from estate tax avoidance but for regular folks not so much.

        • Alby says:

Exactly. If you’re rich enough, it more than pays. One highly placed bank executive I know “moved” to Florida. I asked him how much he was saving in taxes. “Enough to pay for the place in Florida” was his answer.
