Why does anybody care about awards industry people give out to other industry people? I’ve never understood it, particularly given how poorly the selections usually hold up in hindsight.
I once interviewed an engineer who proudly displayed on his office wall his award for designing the Water Tower of the Year. It looked like every other water tower I’ve ever seen, so obviously insiders see things laypeople don’t, but still.
We have a sick fascination with celebrity in this country, and let’s not pretend it hasn’t affected us for the worse.
