“Bernie is just like Trump”

Filed in National by on February 18, 2020

So this appears to be the new Maginot line for corporate Dems and their media horde of TV talking-head bullies.

Are Democratic primary voters dumb enough and scared enough to buy it?  I’ve learned to never underestimate the fearfulness and shortsightedness of Democratic primary voters.

“No one ever went broke betting on the stupidity of the American people”, and I quite agree as I’ve seen it far too many times with being perhaps the best example. But it’s Bloomberg that is just like Trump, not Bernie.

  2. ben says:

well by all means, the way to convince them otherwise is to be the biggest dickhead possible and insult them, their preferred candidate, their parents, and threaten them with bodily harm.

Ben, Serious question. What is it that you don’t like about Bernie being the nominee? Is it that you don’t like his supporters? Is it that you think he doesn’t match up well against Trump?

Because if you agree with him on policies, and “electability” is a sticking point, I’d say that Democrats have been terrible at trying to play the “who is more electable” game.

      • Ben says:

i dont know why anyone would have the idea that have any objection to him being the nominee. I voted for him last time. I prefer Warren as an archetype of what I think a president should be. I had hoped she’d someday run as far back as the CPB being put together. I am also very distrustful of personality cults. (like how i got super into obama fandom, then learned what a politician is) I feel like the whole “bernie movement” puts TOO MUCH emphasis on sanders himself, despite the catchphrase. keep in mind, I have 0 problem with an quite a lot of admiration FOR Bernie Sanders.

I agree Sanders is currently beating Warren. He’ll probably be the nominee.
I’ll still vote for Warren in the primary if she’s on the ballot and if it doesnt look like my 1 vote will be the difference. Im doing that because its my right to vote my conscience. notice how i dont actually ever encourage any of you to change your minds and vote for her?

Yes. it’s *some of the supporters and surrogates. they’re just trolls. they are doing their candidate a huge disservice by making the movement look like it’s about major pwnage. If they ARENT really a part of it, the “good ones” need to do what we keep telling gun owners and cops to do and speak up.

DNC won’t let BS become their nominee.

          • Ben says:

the DNC will do whatever the majority of voting democrats tell them to do or they will cease to exist as a party. If sanders should rightfully get the nom and doesnt, im joining the angry mob.

Given that blue states will vote for the blue candidate (representing approximately 200 electoral votes). The only question is what does it take to collect 70 electoral votes from the swing states. Whatever candidate can snag, PA, WI, FL, NC and VA, is the candidate that the Democrats should nominate. PA (20) and FL (29) are vital to the electoral count. I don’t care who prefers what candidate or for what reason. It’s not about you all. You are in a blue state. You need to be asking the likely voters in key states who they like and are willing to vote for. If Florida loves Bernie, then great he should be the nominee. If they don’t then Trump gets 29 electoral votes.

        • Alby says:

Trump will win Florida by hook or by crook, probably the latter. Never base anything on what works in Florida.

If Americans are more scared of Bernie than Trump, then they deserve Trump’s second term. It’s as simple as that.

          • Dave says:

It’s not that simple. “Americans” (the popular vote) preferred Clinton over Trump. Americans may prefer, but Floridians and Pennsylvanians decide. Seems to me that election strategies should take that into account. If Trump is going to win Florida and there is nothing you can do about it, how can you mitigate that loss? That’s the question. I haven’t seen a path to the Presidency.

Here play the game. Figure out what candidate can get to 270.

No thanks. I’m busy with 3-year-old horses in the Derby prep races. And I’m not the kind of bettor who puts money on Derby futures this far out, so why would I do it with presidential candidates?

I’m voting blue no matter who, so I don’t really care who gets the nomination. Well, I do care, but there’s no sense arguing about it if I’m voting for the nominee no matter what. All that does is divide us. I like Sanders and Warren, but I will hold my nose for any of the others.

This is a large concession for me. I have voted for a major-party presidential candidate just 3 times in 10 elections I’ve been eligible for, mainly as a “none of the above” protest vote.

I personally would prefer to prioritize the fight over the party’s future, but circumstances have presented us with a higher priority. The people will have their say; I probably won’t agree with it because I rarely do, but that’s just the way it goes.

Blue no matter who, Dave. It’s our only hope.
