What do Thomas R. Carper and Coons, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Doug Jones of Alabama and Joe Manchin III of West Virginia have in common?
They were the only Democrats in the Senate to vote for Alex Azar. They voted for Trump’s pick when ALL of these facts were known at the time of the vote:
– Alex Azar was an outspoken critic of The Affordable Care Act” which he said, “failed millions of Americans who have lost the plans they liked and the doctors they liked,”
– Alex Azar told Congress that states should be allowed to impose work requirements on Medicaid beneficiaries.
– Alex Azar tripled the price of Lilly USA’s top-selling insulin drug.
– Under Azar’s watch, Eli Lilly was one of three companies accused in a class-action lawsuit of exploiting the drug pricing system to increase profits for insulin.
– Alex Azar was also fined in Mexico for colluding on the price of insulin.
– Alex Azar “doubled the price of Forteo, a Lilly drug used to treat osteoporosis”.
– Alex Azar more than doubled the price for “Humalog, used to treat diabetes”
– Alex Azar during his tenure at Eli Lilly he more than doubled the price for “Strattera, for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.”
– Alex Azar, in fact “never — not even one time — signed off on a decrease in the price of a medicine.”
– Alex Azar, during his conformation hearing, stated that a woman’s employer should be able to decide, based on ideology, whether or not her birth control should be covered.
The more I look into it the more atrocious Coons’ vote to confirm Azar become.
