Song of the Day 3/8: Hoyt Axton, “Never Been to Spain”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 8, 2020 3 Comments

This is the last day this song title will be true for me. A hit for Three Dog Night, who earlier took Axton’s “Joy to the World” to No. 1, this is the songwriter’s less glitzy original version. It was released, aptly enough, on Axton’s 1971 LP “Joy to the World.” It contains the original […]

Mumps hits 3 NCC Schools

Filed in National by on March 8, 2020 0 Comments

For some reason, the mumps coverage I’ve read so far omits this part of the story.

This part of the story is not too controversial for our local
Media. It should be included.

THE MUMPS WERE ERADICATED IN THE U.S. HOW DID THE DISEASE COME BACK?

Before the vaccine was introduced in 1967, mumps was a common childhood disease.
Mumps cases were down by more than 99 percent in the U.S. until the anti-vaccine movement began to grow twenty years ago. Since then, the disease has continued to pop up throughout the country.
IS THE MUMPS VACCINE SAFE FOR MY CHILD?

Yes, the MMR vaccine is safe and effective. There is no link between the MMR vaccine and the development of autism.

Song of the Day 3/7: McCoy Tyner, “Walk Spirit, Talk Spirit”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 7, 2020 5 Comments

Jazz giant McCoy Tyner died Friday, age 81, at his New Jersey home. He was only 22 when he joined John Coltrane’s quartet, and in the first half of the 1960s he could be heard as a sideman on scores of LPs on Blue Note, often uncredited because his own trio was signed to Impulse. […]

SXSW Canceled.  This is just one event among many events that are being canceled.  The economic impact is huge. $356 mill for the City of Austin alone.  Something like 400,000 visitors.  I fear we’re already in a recession that will only grow exponentially until this event is behind us.  An Upside To The Coronavirus?  The […]

24/7 Dem bashing will level the playing field & make this a close race when it shouldn’t be

24/7 Dem bashing will level the playing field & make this a close race when it shouldn’t be

Not everyone watches Fox News, but everyone lives in an America where 24/7 bashing of Dems by Fox News invades into the cultural zeitgeist. To some extent, it really doesn’t matter who wins the Dem nomination – the Dem nominee will be vilified and hated by at least 49% of Americans by the time the election gets here. (That 49% includes your nice but dumb in-laws who really have no critical thinking skills to speak of.)

This should come as no big to surprise to anyone. It is what they do.

Coons signs onto letter to Alex Azar expressing “serious concerns”.

Coons signs onto letter to Alex Azar expressing “serious concerns”.

In a belated attempt to distance himself from his Azar confirmation vote, Coons has signed onto letter to Alex Azar expressing “serious concerns”.

This is a lame attempt to try and bury the fact that he helped the GOP install a man who:

– has said that health sector profits must be protected during this crisis,
– has attacked the ACA,
– has defunded the CDC, and
– who now admits that he makes national health policy decisions framed by fear of how Trump will react.

Coons’ letter is a fucking joke. Don’t read his letters. Look at his votes.

Song of the Day 3/6: Genesis, “Turn It On Again”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 6, 2020 0 Comments

I missed this news earlier this week. Genesis — the three-man version of Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford — is getting back together for a tour. So far it’s only in the UK, but they’re already adding more shows. As a prog-rock fan I loved the original lineup, before Peter Gabriel and Steve […]

Judge Calls Barr Handling Of Mueller Report ‘Distorted’ And ‘Misleading’.  The result could ultimately be the release of the report in unredacted form. The judge, BTW, was appointed by Dubya. Why The Coronavirus Could Threaten US Economy More Than China’s.  When people-to-people interaction diminishes, so does economic activity. How The Trump Administration ‘Brain Drain’ Impedes […]

How to Catch Flies

Filed in National by on March 6, 2020 48 Comments

Came across this in a Daily Kos diary, and it echoes what I’ve heard both IRL and online. There is a silent majority of American voters who are DONE with the whole “burn it to the ground” attitude. Done. These are people of all stripes, all incomes, all races, all genders, who want to return […]

3 Coronavirus Cases Confirmed in Montgomery County MD

3 Coronavirus Cases Confirmed in Montgomery County MD

Alex Azar isn’t reporting real case numbers for fear of angering Trump, but Johns Hopkins has an interactive map..

But even Johns Hopkins is grossly under-reporting cases as Chris Coons’ buddy continues to cover up our appalling lack of testing kits.

Coons has stated that if rich white men are left alone, they can solve big problems. But if this is the best Yale Law, and the Alfalfa Club can produce, maybe it is time we start looking elsewhere for leadership?

Scarane Slams Coons for Trumpist Warmongering AIPAC comments

Filed in National by on March 5, 2020 4 Comments

If you ever need proof that Coons has the same fucked up worldview as Trump, just wait five minutes. Coons will unleash some Trumpist sounding doozies on ‘Morning Joe’, at a Notre Dame Law School panel, or in this instance speaking at AIPAC.

@JessforDelaware
This is @ChrisCoons at #AIPAC saying that Trump’s reckless assassination of Qasem Soleimani was “a good step forward for peace.”

Trump and Chris Coons are pushing the exact kind of dangerous, warmongering foreign policy we are trying to replace.

Coons really is a piece of work. He doesn’t talk about Soleimani until he end, but if you want to watch 12 minutes of Coons kissing the Likud Party’s ass you will want to watch the entire thing.

Shouldn’t “the market” take care of this?

Shouldn’t “the market” take care of this?

My Lands!! Evil socialism comes to rural Delaware!! Brian Pettyjohn is a socialist, probably with communist tendencies.

DOVER, Del. – In Delaware, every resident will soon have access to high speed internet. It’s been years in the making and on Thursday a plan is officially in place to bring broadband services throughout Kent and Sussex County.

“This is a significant step forward in Delaware in terms of broadband technology and getting it out there to the masses,” explains Kent County Administrator Michael Petit de Mange.

Finally residents that haven’t had the access or means to pay for it, will be able to get it in their homes. …

Sen. Brian Pettyjohn explains, “We need to make sure that it wasn’t just available to the higher tier incomes of families, it was something that should be available to all families and all households.”

Song of the Day 3/5: Richie Havens, “Won’t Get Fooled Again”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 5, 2020 0 Comments

With all due respect to Pete Townshend, I’ve seen enough in my time to know that we will get fooled again — over and over and over again. That’s why I like this Richie Havens version — he sings it not with defiance but with the resignation of a man who knows the title is […]
